Dang the A16 deal came back? That's nice to see. The MSI Delta 15 that's comparable to this (2 year old processor) also came back in stock.

I tested out a few games on this and the upper part of the keyboard was very hot. I didn't want it to harm the internals so I was planning on returning it, but this felt like a very good quality machine for the price.

Edit: Kept it for a little while longer. I'm going to take full advantage of BB's return policy. Seems stable after modifying settings (disable SAG/sleep, magic packet/pattern match, g-helper). After tweaking fan curves with g-helper it seems to run cooler. Stock fan curve seems to start to late and does not reach the max speed until 95C. Wouldn't recommend for out of the box experience but fixable if you research.

I'm looking to buy my first gaming pc, and I had this earmarked as a potential buy: the brand seems reputable and the price is solid.

Anyone have any advice for a first time pc buy?

Gaming laptops are notoriously bad at managing temperatures mainly because of the lack of space compared to a desktop. Higher temps usually results in a lower lifespan.

But if portability is important to you, go for it

Debate about laptop vs desktop aside, is this a good deal? Have been watching for a 4060 laptop deal but not sure how this compares

I bought an Asus Rog GU501 from Best Buy. All I had to upgrade was the ram and SSD because I wanted more storage space for my games. It has been an amazing device for years. The battery needed to replaced at year 4. I never needed to bring it by Best Buy. The right fan under the number pad is making a little bit of noise but that's just old age. While I got mine at a steal 5 years ago, this is a great machine for the price and can be upgraded down the line with a few extra pieces.

I would cross reference other big box retailers for the cpu , gpu, and screen size to see that it's meeting all your expectations. Enjoy!

It runs fine. The TDP keeps it all in check well on this model.

Yeah I figured it should hold up fine, but I didn't want to take a risk, since I plan on keeping it on at high temps for a while. I did more research and the 7600s is in the performance range between 4050 and 4060 depending on the game.

I thought I might as well either save $150 with the Dell G15 4050 or spend a little more and get a 4060. This laptop still has good value since it's one of a few with long lasting batteries unlike the Legions/LOQs (non slim).

I was able to get one open box that looked like-new for 550 plus tax so at that price I'm good without the 4060. Plus a lot of reviews show older dates. With driver improvements it seems to be a lot closer to the 4060 vs 4050. Plenty solid for 1080p! I also like that the ram is not soldered on this model.
