I am holding out for one with Blood Pressure (hopefully continuous).
I have a charge 4 and it counts flights of stairs that went away on the 5 and 6. Mine is b/w display this is color. Mine works fine but the battery only lasts 3.5 days now because it's several years old so I'm considering upgrading just because of that.
When Fitbit decided to start charging me 30$ a month for information that comes with the devices potential, such as sleep and heart, information I had been receiving for years for buying their product, I switched to Garmin and never looked back. Way better product anyway. And what a run on sentence that was. Anyway buy Garmin, they don't nickel and dime and their customer service was great the one time I needed it.
I see people mentioning the subscription model but after looking into it, it's all supplemental stuff it seems. You still can track all your basic stuff for sleep, heart rate, etc.
What am I missing? What exactly did they gate under the premium subscription that was free before?
Regarding the falling prices, my guess is that the model is to sell them cheap and make it up in subscriptions. I hate the idea of buying a watch/fitness tracker that requires a subscription to work...
A subscription…This just confirmed Apple Watches for the kids
I think people overestimate what's locked behind the paywall. I wear a Fitbit Charge 5 (and a Versa 2 before that). I've never paid a cent for Fitbit Premium, but I have access to years of sleep tracking and heart rate data. The subscription gives you access to supplemental reports, but all the basics are still free.

I originally posted this in another Charge 6 thread and want to make others here aware too:
This might seem like a decent price, but I'd highly suggest to avoid Fitbit. I have a Fitbit Charge 5 and it got bricked by a firmware/software update earlier this year. It basically can't turn on anymore and this happened just outside the 1 year warranty period. There are numerous reports of people who got affected by this issue (see Fitbit and reddit forums, amazon reviews), but Fitbit didn't handle the situation right. They basically minimized the issue saying that only a small number of users were impacted (not true) and only offered a 35% coupon to people who raised the issue to buy another Fitbit watch.
I know that product issues sometime happen, but how a company handles such situations will show whether they really stand behind the product and customers. Fitbit utterly failed this test and I think there is a class action being developed for the Charge 5 issue. Basically, if a Fitbit fails outside of the 1 year warranty period, even if the failure is caused by Fitbit's firmware/software upgrade, you are out of luck. Will never be buying a Fitbit again in my life due to this experience.
if anyone owns this, can you check one feature for me please?
each morning, will it show the previous night's
deep aka rem aka quality sleep total time
or will it only "calculate" this once it connects
to a phone based app.
so far i've only seen activity bands that do this simple math
once they connect to the app, they won't do it on their own.

Just to add another issue to charge 5 - mine stopped working after a minor water exposure in swimming pool. They claim it to be water resistant upto 50m.
Internet is full of similar water issue complaints with charge 5. Unfortunately, the only time I wore it for a swim was just after the warranty expired and they offered me 10% off if I buy another which will again be faulty because it's a manufacturing defect.
I would recommend anyone buying new fitbit should check it by submerging in water and claim warranty before it expires.

Dang you need a subscription for this? Hell no. They really just milking us for the money. Paying one price isn't enough, gotta milk us monthly. Will lower base price as bait and switch. I have Charge 5 and I guess I'll stick with it until it dies.

Wow I didn't know this. I normally don't wear my Charge 5 in water but I used it in Wolf Lodge Pools last weekend and it luckily didnt get affected. Will be more careful next time.
The future of Fitbit looks bleak to me. This is the only Fitbit item lunched this year. Three were released last year… Alos, this literally came out a month ago (October 2023) and is already being heavily discounted?
Oh, and this article… Nothing is mentioned about Fitbit in the USA, but… Maybe BestBuy knows something and is dumping them. 🤷 ♂️ Just a thought.
From DigitalTrends:
"Fitbit products are no longer being sold in 11 countries in the EU, including Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Romania, and Slovakia. The products have also been pulled from five locations in the Asia-Pacific region: Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines. According to Tech Central, Fitbit products are also being pulled in South Africa.
And it doesn't stop there. As spotted by 9to5Google, a separate support page from Google indicates that Fitbit products are no longer being sold in Mexico or any other markets in Latin America. That includes Agentina, Chile, Columbia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Peurto Rico, and Venezula. Fitbits were previously being sold in all of these countries, but they've since vanished from thin air."
I was so excited to get the Inspire 2 last year. Got it for about $60 and Fitbit Premium 12-months free, which is like $10/month. I don't use GPS tracker and a bunch of features, just the HRV and sleep metrics and Zone Minutes for workouts.
Any alternatives out there that just do the basics?
