if anyone owns this, can you check one feature for me please?

each morning, will it show the previous night's
deep aka rem aka quality sleep total time
or will it only "calculate" this once it connects
to a phone based app.

so far i've only seen activity bands that do this simple math
once they connect to the app, they won't do it on their own.
It only shows that data in the mobile app after it syncs with the band.

I was so excited to get the Inspire 2 last year. Got it for about $60 and Fitbit Premium 12-months free, which is like $10/month. I don't use GPS tracker and a bunch of features, just the HRV and sleep metrics and Zone Minutes for workouts.

Any alternatives out there that just do the basics?
New Fitbit Charge 5 Pebble via eB.y (a Pebble is the watch only, you will need to buy the band and charger cord separately, $12 or so at the Rain Forest website) add the 3 year all state warranty and you will pay $38 or so + tax. With the band and charger cable all in under $55.

I did this and and after registering it I did receive the 6 month free premium subscription just like if I had bought the Fitbit full retail at BB. This Charge 6 after tax will run $50+ more. It adds a home button, supposedly a better heart rate monitor and some Google apps can be added. You decide if that is worth the extra money.

The Charge 5 ( same exact design and dimensions as the Charge 6, using the same bands and charger) has all the basics, steps, heart rate, activities, sleep monitoring, ecg, zone minutes. Also gps and if within Bluetooth range of your phone you can get text and email notifications which you can read and send back simple pre loaded responses.

Charge 3 crapping out on me twice after about a year ended my relationship with Fitbit. I tried the Apple Watch but hated the app compared to Fitbit. Been without a tracker for about a year and feel kinda free now lol
Try a Coros Pace 2 (older model). I moved from Garmin to Coros and couldn't be happier. Sleep tracking way better along with their app

Google is not killing Fitbit. I am in San Diego where they are headquartered and know many folks working there. Since the Google acquisition two years ago, Fitbit has been focused on integrating with Googles infrastructure and implementing Google's material design UI. Google like many tech companies has been laying off employees and dropping low usage features so staff can focus on core features and upgrades.

This happened with slack when they got acquired. Many features were paused as they integrated with Salesforce infrastructure and business processes.

Also the price drop is common for the thanksgiving holiday. It's one the biggest retail events after Christmas. So manufacturers introduce their products a month before and then discount them for Thanksgiving. Will be discounted again for Xmas.

Thanks for this info. I've just ordered a replacement "pebble", new band and charger.

Interesting, I didn't realize just the pebble component of the charge 5 could be purchased. I'm wondering how hundreds of them are being sold on that marketplace by unofficial Fitbit sources and where the sellers are getting them. Maybe Fitbit/Google could de-activate them later if they identify them as stolen or illegitimate.

I have a bricked Charge 5 and thinking now whether to spend the $30+ on a Charge 5 pebble since I already have the charger and band. It may be worth the risk, but I don't trust Fitbit to not fail again.

From Reddit discussions I found, this Pebble availability has been going on for some time over multiple different models. I have not to date read about Fitbit bricking these purchases. I imagine if they are getting some premium subscriptions out of the Pebble purchasers they are good with that.

Yeah, from what I've been reading, these pebble only components are not counterfeit, but they are mostly likely obtained under false pretenses (e.g. submitting requests from a hacked Fitbit account for warranty exchange) so Google/Fitbit would have the right to de-activate them if they caught on and wanted to do anything about it.

It's an interesting option to consider for anyone whose Charge 5 is no longer working. For me, I decided not to invest anymore into anything Fitbit related and am going to try Garmin instead. I think it's highly likely that any Charge 5 replacement won't last another year (either due to defective build quality or bad software update causing another brick).

I read that exact "theory" on how these are available and find it a bit preposterous. Hundreds if not thousands of legit purchasers don't know their accounts were hacked and provided no feedback / complaints back to Fitbit that they made no such claim for replacement? Then didn't make it known on social media of this issue. Nope, not buying it.
