$85.46 after hack.
Good deal for people on the platform already who need to add a grinder with a lock switch rather than paddle. Lemme know if this product commonly sells for less than $85, and I'll delete my poast

I have one of these and hate it. Not because of how it works, but because it doesn't work with standard discs. The ability to change a disc quickly doesn't matter. One who needs multiple discs at once just buys more grinders. The disks cost quite a bit more, can't be purchased everywhere. In particular I can't purchase them at any of the 3 hardware stores near me. I can only purchase them at Home Depot or online.
According to the listing the grinder is not compatible with traditional round arbor hole wheels, but the x-lock wheels themselves can be used on a traditional grinder arbor.
This. I had x lock but sold it to get the old type. Much cheaper to get the wheels
I've had the paddle version for 2+ years and it's been great. I always see people complaining about finding the X-Lock wheels and how much more expensive they are.. but I've never had that issue. If HD is not nearby, It's a Bosch patent so I've been able to get them at Lowe's or on Amazon. Last month I loaded up on Bosch ones for 1.49/each on Amazon.
I bought this a year ago and it's a great grinder and the X-Lock system is super easy and quick. But no one makes X-Lock diamond cup wheels for grinding down concrete, so I ended up buying a second grinder anyhow.
For every other application I was able to find X-Lock discs and wheels.
If I had to do it over again knowing that now, I would just have gone with the non-X-lock to start.

Yeah I kinda felt that way when I got my Bosch oscillating tool. Starlock is nice but harder to get cheap blades for projects (when quality cuts aren't important)
Makita grinder is always solid. Most grinder users prefer paddle switch. Some key features if you looking for a grinder . Anti kick back, variable control, vibration suppression. x lock disc are very expensive, especially Diamond blade disc but it's save time for disc change and is a safety for changing hot grinding disc. If you not planning to use this grinder for polishing & sanding this is a solid choice. Grinder are power hungry tool expect to
Invest in a large battery that will increase weight. For example a 5ah battery probably give you 15-20 min run time.
Is there an advantage to having the lock switch vs paddle to power the grinder? Maybe when you are doing a large area of grinding, it's better to have the slide lock?
Ya exactly. And when/if u ever turn grinder sideways, holding the paddle down becomes awkward/cumbersome, especially for long periods of time
Personal preference for me (I have a cheap corded grinder with slide lock, but my cordless ones all have triggers). When using my ginders I always have my hands on the body, so by default, I am holding down the trigger. If I were to drop the grinder, get something caught in the wheel or brush, or somehow lose control for some reason, it would shut off when I released my hand...not so much with a slide lock.
"AFT® turns motor off if wheel rotation suddenly stops"
AFt is a standard safety feature in the slide lock
So I see that the x lock is awesome in that it makes changing blades so much easier while using xlock blades and then also it works for regular standard non x lock blades as well still..
Is that right / how is it possible that it works with both and u get the best of both worlds??
Only uses xlok blades. These blades work with all grinders, but not the other way around.
I WOULD NOT GO FOR THIS DEAL! First off x-lock sounds nice until you have to pay a premium for the special blades. Also harder to buy. But besides for that there is a set of two 5Ah batteries plus a charger plus a bag for $200 with a free tool. That free tool could be the grinder. You end up paying 85 for the grinder. But the batteries are a great deal. Definitely more worth it Imo

Grinders can be very dangerous so at least watch some videos on the safe operation...
