ALR = Ambient Light Rejection.

Basically the material is (on a very tiny scale) ridged/zigzagged so that one facet is facing your projector directly and the other side of the "ridge" is catching the light from above/ahead/the rest of the room. That way your eye only sees the portion that's bouncing back the full-strength projected image at you, rather than a washed-out picture that's competing with the rest of the ambient light. A diagram helps to explain this, too.

I want one, the above excerpt is how I'd attempt to sell my wife on the idea. I would not succeed. Hope this helps you!
don't trust the original $1800 price tag. this is only worth $200.
actually don't trust anything hisense said.
Alot if you have a short throw projector and any kind of ambient or outside lighting while you watch it.

How much better is this vs using a blank white wall.

Likely not in the original package.

Packaged Dimensions: 96.7" x 59.8" x 8.3" (WxHxD)

Inside the packaging this will arrive in a 5 foot by 12 foot box. Even getting that in your front door could be a production.

However, once removed from the box the dimensions are such that even on a tight set of stairs could be negotiated on the short edge. Of course, this is likely still easiest with two people rather than solo.

Dimensions: 88.7" x 50.7" x 1.8" (WxHxD)

The big value at sub-$500 is getting a screen that is both ALR *and* receiving the screen pre-built. Typical name-brand pre-built ALR screens have commanded price premiums historically double or more the deal price. This pricing is closer to DIY screens, which having built a few in this size aren't for everyone.

Good luck!
Jon

That retail is above what even ViewSonic set for their early ALR screens, but with inflation and the lack of big brand names in this space (pretty sure even Epson makes you build the screen these days) they can definitely set their retail price to whatever they imagine.

Good luck!
