1. Get one number for phone calls and texts ONLY. You are known to others (friends, banks, insurance companies...) by that number. Use a very cheap plan that has little to no data for it.
2. Get another number for data ONLY. Switch to the cheapest you can find every a few months. You are always a new user because you don't need to port in your number for it.

Any info on how long these sims are valid for / expire? I plan to use them as $5 a month 3-mo 5GB burner phone. Not going crazy to get many but maybe 2-3. They should still be valid for activation 9 months from now / within 1 year?

I ordered from Boost directly. They automatically activated the SIM card the day that I received it. I don't need their service until later next month. Customer service was not helpful. They would not do anything. 3 weeks of service wasted.

Lesson of the day: do not buy directly from Boost if you do not want to activate service right away.

I know this doesn't help you at this point, but for others that may be reading this: the way to avoid Boost pre-activating the line is to say you want to port your number. At the time of activation, you still will get the choice of picking a new number, but it puts off the activation until you are ready.

Same mistake I made.
I forgot from a previous boost deal that we had to pick the 'port' option, same as the user above me suggested.

Does Boost tie the SIM to a specific device/IMEI like Tracfone does? I'd like the freedom to move the card.
