Will this perform on par with a desktop 4060?

More likely it performs somewhere between a desktop 3060 and a desktop 3060Ti.

No it won't. Please don't try and help others about things you don't know.

Wow I bought this at full msrp when it was released and returned since BB wouldn't price match Lenovo. Now it's very reasonable for the specs!

Heads up that the only Windows Hello option is a poorly placed fingerprint sensor.

And no adaptive or g sync.

You may have had a different model. This one does have g-sync.

Battery life? my kid is starting college next year so was looking for a gamer/general laptop that he can use for work (and gaming..he's mainly playing COD/RPGs).

Edit: NV...battery is listed as 5 hours ...

Unlike most, the desktop and laptop versions are the same GPU.

But the laptop is voltage limited which restricts how much you can overclock it. At stock expect ~8% difference, but the gap would probably widen with OC.

But... this one says 100W TGP. If that includes boost, then there might be a small hit from the wattage limit.

First, congrats on your son going to college. It's kind of tricky with what you are asking for as gaming and battery life do not go hand in hand. Since that is your main focus though, I would recommend a ryzen based system...something like the Asus advantage edition or g14 kinda fits in to what you are looking for. They are one of the better gaming laptops with battery life...bestbuy open box is a good place to watch for it.

The Tuf A16 would be a good choice and is only $750! https://slickdeals.net/f/17050522-asus-tuf-a16-16-fhd-165hz-ryzen-7-7735hs-rx-7600s-16gb-ddr5-512gb-ssd-749-99?src=SiteSearch

But this laptop isn't bad at all. https://youtu.be/FwUoLbMhiWk?si=V...Ke4l&t=376

Generally... avoid any HX processor from either CPU brand.
