Requires AT&T service and phone payment plan. You may want to include that in your title.

Yeah. Chatting with Verizon and she is saying there won't be any charges if you cancel the line within 3 days of shipping the phone. Pay off amount is the device balance charge of $929 for the iPhone 14 Plus 256 GB. Not sure if it's true. Will go to Verizon store to pay off my phone and cancel the line to find out what will be the bill.
Today is 3 rd day since my phone was shipped so I still have a chance to cancel. I am worried that if I do so I may not be able to unlock and won't receive the Walmart gift card.

Ship date = activation date. As long as you receive/cancel on Monday you will get a prorated bill. Be sure to ask for activation fee waived when you cancel.
Thanks. Is the phone pre activated or do I need to activate before cancellation?

Thanks for the wiki info!

Can I still unlock on an active AT&T line, with my AT&T phone number? TIA
Yes if you upgraded the line you can just unlock as an att customer after paying off the device. Otherwise just move the new iPhone to a different line on your account and request the unlock. After approval you can move it back (or cancel).

The phone will show as activated, but I would go ahead and boot it up and activate once you receive it, to start the unlock timer (60 days) and to register the Apple warranty start date.

Thanks for the response. I will not receive the phone until 28th and that will be over 3 days from the shipping days. So wanted to check if I can cancel the line before I receive the phone to avoid any charges. In this case will it create any issues with phone activation when I receive the phone?

Does that mean I can order online and unlock the phone and cancel line and even still expect to receive the GC in next 20 days without any worry. Considering i will cancel line before and get the WGC latter. Thnx a ton for your response!!
you should still receive the GC, Walmart and VZ/ATT is not connected or interchange information. They will not know you cancel the services. Also once you paid off the device, ATT/VZ cant refund you the money, so because there is no way to return the phone so you keep the phone and the GC. And those carriers and Walmart know we did this, but our number is not even enough to make a dent in their profit, or else they will stop this by putting a cancelation condition in the deal to prevent this.

It is probably fine. Worst case you can activate on a Verizon mvno (Tracfone, Total wireless, straight talk) and it will still unlock after 60 days. Best case is it just unlocks automatically.

I would chat Verizon anyway and ask what your activation date is. You can also do the apple warranty lookup on your phone serial#.

Have any VZ online orders been delivered yet? As a new Verizon customer (new number also), my status says shipped, but the phone number is not recognized by Verizon as activated... i think activation date will be when i turn the phone on for the first time.
It also means i can't set up an account yet, so any kind of payoff (or cancellation) before receipt is impossible. Can anyone confirm this? I still expect to cancel after receipt and have the activation fees refunded... Even though it will be a week after "shipping".

I was able to setup my account using the assigned (new) phone number before the device was shipped . If you don't have the number , call up Walmart and they will provide that.

If you want to try to unlock it I'm happy to share the procedure, but it would be safer to try if you plan on staying on Verizon.

1. Pay off phone from 800# or Verizon app (likely not allowed)
2. Basically you activate it first boot on an AT&T mvno eSIM then request unlock from the AT&T unlock portal as a non-customer. You would buy the eSIM + 1 month at h2owireless,com (currently on sale for $10 instead of $18) and activate using the QR code they give you. You have to be careful not to accidentally activate using the assigned eSIM from Verizon else you're stuck on the 60 day unlock. The risk is only $10 though.

Can you convert an old inactive AT&t physical sim to eSIM, and then use that?
