Got an ATT iphone 15 from Bestbuy and paid upfront. Trying to follow the unlock method, and the ATT site says it cant find the IMEI as being sold by ATT. Been 2 days since the phone was activated and also made a few calls on both the locked iphone and another unlocked phone (after sim transfer), verified both phones showed up in the account. Tried unlocking again and it gave me the same message

" We can't unlock this device because we can't locate it in our database of devices sold by AT&T. Please call us at 800.331.0500 for assistance."

Any suggestions?
can you check on https://sickw.com/ and select option [ FREE - APPLE ACTIVATION STATUS -IMEI/SN] to see if your phone is activated or regsiter. cause if it is then it should be in ATT database

That error mean your phone is never registered in ATT database. your best option is contact customer service and ask them to manual add the IMEI into the system, hence thats why this step is an activation process and ATT charges $35 for it when you open the line. if you buy the Phone from BestBuy, the issue looks to me like the rep there didn't activate it for you.

When i bought the phone at Walmart 2 days ago, i watched the rep activate the phone by input the IMEI onto their( ATT system) and make a phone call in front of me to ensure it is ready to use.

Thanks. I just checked at it shows as activated:

Loaner Device: No
Replaced Device: No
AppleCare Eligible: No
Valid Purchase Date: Yes
Activation Status: Activated
Registration Status: Registered
Estimated Purchase Date: November 2023
Warranty Status: AppleCare+

Also thanks for that additional bit of info. When I bought it at bestbuy they just handed me the box with the iphone still sealed inside. They said it was already activated and when I turned it ON it did connect to the ATT network right away. Also showed up in the account dashboard so I wasnt worried at the time.

I'll try chatting with the customer service to ensure its detected.

Just received my AT&T iPhone 14+. It is AT&T locked, not flex reseller policy. Also it is not activated.

Locked carrier: 23 - US AT&T Activation Policy
Sim-Lock status: Locked

Just curious how do you know your account is locked for transfer eSIm ?
If you get more than 2 denied when submit unlock then wait 24hr before trying to to submit again

I would call CSR and ask to transfer the esim back into the iphone, used for a couple days. since you are already outside of 3-days, but if you can unlock wihtin this month, you can at least reduce the cost of the monthly payment.

This is what I am getting in sickw (see below) but I was still getting the not in database error

Looks like me and FancyMeal5912 are in similar boat - my sickw looks same as his/hers except regarding Apple Care

Should I still transfer sim back to IPhone which I may have to do in store (my account is now locked from using the byod site to activate sim, or should I call and try to argue why the unlock error?

For the iPhone 13, the ATT unlock trick can performed before or after cancellation. Because Walmart ship the phone as FlexPolicy along with the physical SIM card.
Thank you!

Quote from ajslezak :
If you want to try to unlock it I'm happy to share the procedure, but it would be safer to try if you plan on staying on Verizon.

1. Pay off phone from 800# or Verizon app (likely not allowed)
2. Basically you activate it first boot on an AT&T mvno eSIM then request unlock from the AT&T unlock portal as a non-customer. You would buy the eSIM + 1 month at h2owireless,com (currently on sale for $10 instead of $18) and activate using the QR code they give you. You have to be careful not to accidentally activate using the assigned eSIM from Verizon else you're stuck on the 60 day unlock. The risk is only $10 though.

How's #2 possible because the phone has to be activated by Walmart in-store first to get the GC?

No, I checked before opening the box (got the serial off the back of it). For someone who asked, sickw still isn't showing Activated even though I activated a little over an hour ago, so there must be some delay in their check.

If activated in store it's not possible to unlock using the eSIM trick. In fact, if the phone came Verizon locked as someone has posted, I don't think you can make it activate on a different provider eSIM either (on first boot). So Verizon iPhone will be locked 60 days on this deal .. don't see a way around it.

Note: I did try a few things to see if I could change the eSIM to activate when I first booted up the new iPhone. I wasn't able to change it. Perhaps if you could go to a location with no cellular signal (a basement?) and didn't connect to wifi, it --might-- ask you to scan a QR code. This is a complete guess so someone else needs to try it. Also note I had the AT&T iPhone which by default has a different lock policy than the other carriers (at least it does when purchased direct from Apple), so YMMV with Verizon.

Here's my update:
AT&T iPhone 14+ successfully unlocked Smilie

1. created AT&T account once phone shipped. Saw the iPhone 14+ in my account but no IMEI or serial# is shown.
2. paid off device from myATT app yesterday morning (day 2).
3. received phone today, booted up/went through automatic AT&T activation. made 1 phone call.
4. immediately transferred the AT&T eSIM to my unlocked iPhone SE, using the option under Cellular/add a cellular plan (from nearby iPhone). Made a phone call on the iPhone SE using the AT&T eSIM.
5. waited about 15 minutes. checked myATT app and saw the iPhone SE there instead of the new iPhone.
6. requested unlock as non-ATT customer (was not logged in to att.com on computer), with non-ATT phone/email, and new iPhone IMEI.
7. approved request to unlock in email (email came within a minute or two).
8. received unlock approval email within a minute or two
9. transferred a different carrier eSIM (GSMA RedPocket) from another iPhone to the new iPhone, to initiate activation which permanently removes the carrier lock.
10. checked in Settings/General and see "No SIM restrictions."

this is weird that happened for both of you. I think your last option is call CSR and ask to ensure the IMEI is active and in ATT database, if you ask them to request unlock now, they will denied it as the policy said your phone number is not 60 days.

ATT csr no idea how to deal with it.

yeap, your best bet it ask them to ensure it is in the system and properly activated.

so i think there is the difference between activation and transfer devices. When i call CSR they said activation costs $35 to activate the IMEI that tight to the number you open. And transfer the device is just manually putting the IMEI on the eSIm so you can use it.

First, did you request the unlock as a non-AT&T customer? don't do as an AT&T customer.

If that doesn't work:
Can you eSIM transfer the AT&T plan back to the new iPhone? Try that, make some calls, make sure it shows up in myATT app (or on att.com). Then eSIM swap it back to another unlocked iPhone, wait until it's in myATT app, then submit unlock request after 30 minutes or so.

Not sure how to ask them if IMEI is in ATT database, the rep would be like why are you asking, what are you asking? And I would have to explain I saw the error on the unlock page. Should I just switch back to the iPhone for now even though it will require store visit switching back to Android

I believe you can try to switch back to AT&T back and forth again

Try use a different name, email, phone number not the one registered with Att, to process unlock request.
