be careful about Verizon BYOD device. Verizon does not unlock BYOD device even though the device is locked to Verizon. I had a whole month of battle this month with Verizon with 30+ calls to Verizon about unlocking my iPhone 13 mini bought from Walmart in May 2023. However Verizon can unlock the device if Verizon has the contract of the installment plan. Make sure Verizon has the record.
How did you know your device was BYOD? of the 2 phones I bought, 1 of the phones has a BYOD credit on the bill so I wonder if I will have trouble unlocking that phone?

Sickw shows exactly same info for both phones, other than unique device IDs.

how long after the esim swap can we request the online att portal unlock ?
Once it shows in his myatt app you can submit, but I would wait another 20 minutes just in case.

Welcome to the family! You , me and FancyMeal are all in the same unfortunate boat
I am in the same boat now.
Received my ATT iPhone 14+ today 11/26.
0. Paid off device on 11/25
1. Made a few calls / texts today (11/26).
2. Transferred eSim to my unlocked iPhone 13
3. Made calls / texts
4. iPhone 13 shows in my ATT account
5. Submit unlock request using the iPhone 14+ IMEI (non customer)
5. Got error message: "We can't unlock this device because we can't locate it in our database of devices sold by AT&T. Please call us at 800.331.0500 for assistance."

Let me know if you find a solution to this. Thanks.

I can tell you for sure that Apple does not and will not unlock the carrier lock (aka sim lock). I reached to Apple level 2 (senior tech support) and got a firm answer on this. This was also verified by multiple Verizon rep talking to Apple directly on my behalf for unlocking my iPhone 13 mini from Walmart fiasco.

apologies if this has been asked elsewhere - but do we pay tax on the phone upfront? With tax + activation this becomes more like a $200 gift card deal. My monthly payment also wouldn't go up if I get the full $1000 in bill credits right?
Correct, you pay tax on the full value and $35 activation fees.

Yeah. I called ATT and they cant find the IMEI in their database. They asked me to go to ATT store. When I went to the corporate store they said they cant do anything about it and asked me to go to the place of purchase. So I went to bestbuy. They dont know what the issue is.
I guess in this situation, even we stayed for 60 days in the plan, they will not know how to unlock the phone

well , the rep was telling me that the activation would be waived for phones bought at verizon and not byod when i was asking to waive off activation .. infact , he was asking me if i had bought on verizon .. i dont see any byod credit on my bill ..

i spoke with another rep now and closed the line . did not hear anything about byod this time . but he was telling me i owe the while 1 month bill . it was a chaos . i asked why whole 1 month bill when im cancelling the 3rd day and he said it is from oct 23 to nov 24 .. but when i told i opend the line on nov 24 and canceling today , he took some time and replied back saying im good and i dont owe anyting ..

I just knew this a few minutes ago after talking to a Verizon rep. Apparently Verizon can or will unlock your phone only if Verizon has the info to prove that you paid off the device. The sickw can only show you whether the phone is locked to a specific carrier. It won't show you other info. The Verizon representative compared the iPhone 15 pro max that has 36 installment plan with the iPhone 13 mini that has no installment plan from Walmart back in June 2023. Both showed "Apple carrier locked". The iPhone 15 pro max show an additional line: veriozn installment locked. The iPhone 13 mini show an additional line: previous carrier locked. Verizon cannot unlock device with previous carrier locked phone because the unlock button on the Verizon rep end would be greyed out and the unlock period would show 9999 years. For the iPhone 15 pro max the unlock period would show the date that can be unlocked (60 days after activation)

So everyone, let's be clear. Are Verizon reps telling you the iPhone will not auto-unlock after you paid if off and activated on Verizon? (in either order).

My understanding from previous deals is that Verizon auto-unlocks all iPhones 60 days after activation, assuming they were paid off. This is even true for its own MVNOs under Tracfone (Straight Talk, Total Wireless, etc.). If this is not the case any longer we should be telling people to avoid Verizon at least for iPhone 14/15 unless they plan to stay 60 days.

Edit: I think the reps are lying, check Verizon official policies: https://www.verizon.com/support/d...cking-faqs

The benefit of Verizon over AT&T for these deals --was--:
Verizon iPhone unlocks automatically 60 days after activation. Verizon prorates service (even if >3 days). Refunds activation within 3 days.

AT&T requires 60 days service on new line to unlock phone (can get around this by swapping line to another unlocked iPhone, if not engaging AT&T reps). AT&T prorates within 3 days, refunding activation. No proration of service after 3 days (must pay full month).

Hey all, so I purchased two iPhone 14 Plus phones with ATT on friday morning and paid them off in a corporate store that very afternoon. Now, I'm trying to get the first one unlocked.

I tried moving the eSIM to an unlocked iPhone XR using the quick transfer feature on iPhone but it didn't work out. My iPhone 14 Plus would not show a pop up asking to transfer the eSIM. So I called AT&T and asked them to transfer it for me and they did it successfully.

After that, I put in my IMEI2 from my new iPhone 14 Plus on the device unlock portal with a non ATT number and different email but it gave me this message:

'The device you want to unlock is active on another AT&T account. The account owner needs to remove the device from their account first. For assistance, call 800.331.0500'

What should I do now ? I already did it twice and got the same message

haha that was the problem. Back in may 2023 Walmart had a slew of iPhone 13 mini for $200 with $5.xx a month installment plan for 36 month. Some contracts were sent correctly to Verizon from Walmart, some didn't get sent correctly. I bought 2 iPhone 13 mini. One got the contract correctly and one didn't. The one that has the sim locked still is the one with the incorrect contract. Walmart messed it up and Walmart didn't want to correct it ( a lot of people had the same issue, a big thread about it here in slickdeal).

As long as you pay off the device on att or Verizon, not Walmart, your phone should be unlocked by att or Verizon because att or Verizon has the record of your payoff. If someone pays off the device at Walmart, then you have to make sure Walmart has sent thr payoff info to att or Verizon to clear the record.

This unlockable issue not only happens to phones sold in Walmart but also in Best Buy. BEST Buy even accept payoff at their store last year. The Verizon rep told me a lot of unlocking issues from best buy and Walmart. Make sure the pay off info is sent to att or Verizon if the pay off is done at the store. I don't think Walmart allows paying off in the store for this Walmart deal. So I think these phones should be unlocked ready.

I guess AT&T has fixed something the SIM swap method is no longer working.
