Requires AT&T service and phone payment plan. You may want to include that in your title.

This is quoted from the iPhone 13 deal a few weeks back:

(Note: this trick is for IPhone only and will not work with A54)
I can confirm the AT&T trick is working with a Verizon phone. It doesn't matter whats going on with your Verizon account. Paid off, not paid off, no account, canceled or not. This is concerning your DEVICE. You should pay the (phone pay off amount) as soon as you can find someone to take payment lol and cancel your line to stop the prorated monthly charges.

[QUOTE proudtobeanindian]1. Under no circumstance, do NOT put the Verizon sim card into the phone unless you want a 60 day lock.
2. Ok let's free our devices. I bought a AT&T prepaid card from walmart [walmart.com] for $10 (also available at Best Buy [bestbuy.com] and Target [target.com]). Other users report success with H2O $1 sim from Target [target.com] or Best Buy [bestbuy.com]. You can also use old inactive ATT sim cards. Do NOT use any T-Mobile sims unless you want your phone locked to their service!
3. First phone boot was with the AT&T card. In settings, about device showed sim locked.
4. Visit https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and click "start an unlock request"
5. Choose no mobile number from AT&T and enter the IMEI from setting, about. Don't enter the IMEI2 which is for your phones esim.
6. Check your email & junk folder to click link from email to "confirm your request". I got email nearly immediately that my unlock was approved.
7. Now reset the phone. I left the AT&T sim in it. Now the phone shows no sim restrictions. Note you might not have to do the reset. I read that just changing the sim should cause the phone to show no sim restriction but I reset mine.
8. Put whatever sim in it you would like.
9. I actually bought a 2nd phone that is still in the mail so I plan to try to reuse the same sim though I'm not sure if it will work.

Verizon eSIM is assigned to iPhone, and will be Verizon locked once booted/activated. You could get around that if you never boot the device and cancel service. But nobody has confirmed the unlock yet, so this is all conjecture.

The trade in values comes as a one time credit or monthly credits? I just got my phone yesterday and going to pay it off and cancel the new line today. Want to make sure the credit will be applied before I pay it off.
If you want Trade-In Credits, why cancel and pay off ?

Looks like I am one the many that got their phone not set up properly. I purchased online for Verizon service. Phone is fully paid off and line cancelled. Ultimately I want to move it to T-Mobile. Looking at below I am not convinced after 60 days it will actually unlock.

What are my bet options? do the Tracfone esim option. Other ideas?

Below is the Sickw data points.

Replaced Device: No Warranty Status; Limited Warranty
Estimated Purchase Date: 2023-11-24
Demo Unit: No
Loaner Device: No
Replacement Device: No
Refurbished Device: No
Purchase Country: United States
Locked Carrier: 4000 - US Reseller Flex Policy
Sim-Lock Status: Locked
What makes you think it will not unlock after 60 days? Many ppl in this thread, as well as from the earlier iPhone 13 deal thread, all claimed that Verizon iPhones will unlock automatically after 60 days.

Yeah agree about the 60 day Auto Unlock after seeing the discussion on Flex policy.

I might have missed this but can you use a postpaid ATT esim? or does it have to be ATT MVNO? I ask as I already have an active ATT esim on an iPhone 12. Does that change unlocking strategy?

If you chose Verizon as your provider, you just have to wait the 59 days.

Play stupid games trying to unlock early, win a stupid prize.

I keep getting this error message to go to a store but when I go to the store no one has a clue. Has anyone got this message and bypassed it?

Upgrade with restrictions - You need to complete your upgrade at a Walmart store.
Please visit the nearest Walmart store with a Walmart Mobile Desk and we'll help you upgrade your device.

Note: My phone is paid off and upgrade ready

I already have a verizon account and it was an upgrade. Mine updated to out for delivery today.
Hey, did you paid off the device after the status changed to "shipped" or when you received it? Mine just changed to shipped and was wondering if I should pay off the phone and cancel the line. Thank you!

Is your new iPhone showing reseller flex policy? if so..
Is the iPhone 12 AT&T line active for 60 days already? Then yes, eSIM swap the AT&T eSIM to the new iPhone and request unlock as an AT&T customer, it should go through.

Check my post just above this one. If you want a no-risk 60 day unlock then tracfone/verizon is best option. Otherwise AT&T mvno and immediate unlock.
Getting closer, ended up loading Red Pocket MVNO to my Flex policy Verizon phone. No problem as Red Pocket is up and running.

Then followed the steps for unlock request with ATT and got this message. "We can't unlock this device because we can't locate it in our database of devices sold by AT&T. Please call us at 800.331.0500 for assistance."

Worse case I can stay on Red Pocket for the 60 days just feels like I am close to getting this figured out. Thoughts?

Did you make some calls? It might take a bit for the phone to register. And to confirm, you are on Red Pocket GSMA? they have 2 others (Verizon/TMo).

Edit: you said you have an AT&T eSIM? not sure if that will work now since you activated on Red Pocket, but you can try to eSIM swap that plan to the new iPhone. Then request unlock as an AT&T customer.

Confirmed, I am on Red Pocket GSMA, I decided against the ATT postpaid as it is an esim tied to my corporate phone plan (did want to mess that up). I did make 1 call. I will give it some more time. Thanks ajslezak for all you help to this thread!

Np. worst case, here is the redpocket unlock request page: Unlocking My Red Pocket Mobile Device [redpocket.com]

Edit: can you check sickw.com ? see if it's updated your lock policy
