Requires AT&T service and phone payment plan. You may want to include that in your title.

I purchased AT&T, paid off, swapped to unlocked iPhone, canceled BEFORE the unlock, and now I'm stuck with not being the "database of devices sold by AT&T".

Can anyone confirm whether placing a 60+ day old AT&T account to the device would allow it be to unlocked? I'm not sure if the not in database error is going to follow the device wherever it goes.

Yeah, they are willing to help. Just ask them how can you unlock it. And if they found the IMEI is in your account then they will say 60 days policy. If not they will try to submit ticket to unlock for you or try to find out which account connect to the IMEI

After spending an hour on phone with them I opened a new ticket. I actually opened one 2 days ago with chat and tried to find the number from the downloaded transcript but it was masked. Tech support/back office was unable to unlock my device - they keep asking me if it was a warranty replacement. Im hoping I get it unlocked before I have to pay a 2nd month. At least with this case number they sent me a confirmation text so I have it with a resolution time which is Monday afternoon.

I was mainly focused on skirting the activation fee and didn't realize it mattered! If status of my account is key, would reactivating help? They told me I had 14 days to reconsider.

It's worth trying. At that point, you'd be an AT&T customer (or whoever's line you're on) and they would be more willing to resolve the unlock (or missing in db) issue.

i am totally understand your feeling, i had one iphone that was unable to unlock because i canceled before the unlock process finsihed. now its is unable to unlock, the error i got is different than your, " because you return the phone within 14 days" . They are slow to respond and sometimes the only option is to escalate to the manager. hopefully, they are going to unlock for you.

If it's a warranty replacement that means Apple replaced the phone and it got inadvertently locked due to reseller flex policy. I'm guessing Apple would verify this before unlocking but hey that may be worth trying (claiming it's a warranty replacement so AT&T gives Apple the go ahead to unlock)

ok So I had this Device not in database error. Tried eSim swap with friend's AT&T postpaid line active for more than 60 days. NO LUCK.
Checking with representative she told me Device shipment is incomplete.
4 tickets open for adding IMEI to database, unlocking, and shipment status incomplete since last 5 days. ETA time is passed already for 3 tickets. Have not heard back from AT&T anything yet.
Today reactivated cancelled line. Swapped eSim with my iphone. Tried unlocking then getting error Device is active on another AT&T account. My old iphone was reflecting in myAtt app but could not go through unlock.
Called apple and they looped in ATT in call .. spent one and half hour no resolution.
I am now in doubt that device will unlock after 60 days.
huh...

If it's Verizon it's fine. You can cancel before you receive it. Then boot with a Verizon mvno eSIM (tracfone or total wireless or straight talk). You'll unlock in 60 days post activation.

In fact, it seems it takes some time for Verizon to unassign the eSIM from your phone after cancellation, so you can try just booting the new iPhone once you get it and see if it activates.
What happens to gift card? Do you still get it

This is actually the same boat I am in. I got the same errors in the same order. I don't have 5 tickets though, only on my 2nd. I wish I could return the phone but as others have said , if you return, you can't get device payment back which makes no sense to return then unless you want to dispute. I think best option is to sell it locked to ATT but if the person ever wants to get it unlocked they will probably have trouble in the future or trade it in somewhere.

I think maybe another avenue is to complain to Walmart but they will likely be incompetent.

Phone cost $880 including tax 7% where I am, less $500 GC = $380 , trade in at Apple towards IPhone 15 128gb and they charge $359 for unlocked version - guessing $384 with tax if they dont charge on price b4 trade - so $384 + $380 + $65 approx for my first mo ATT bill = $800 - it would be unlocked and sealed and could possibly sell it new but what a pain in the ass but it sucks because the IPhone 15 sells for $800 + tax at Apple w/o trade in, so not a good situation
