Don't know how they can enforce it. No way they can track the sim card number from retailers, unlike those sold directly from Mint website. I recent activated a Mint sim card that I bought from BB two years ago, and it's still good for 3 month, although there's a fine print there like 'activate within 45 days of purchase'.
Thanks man for the info, it's kind of a gamble but I think I will try. I did it with boost and it was great to have some on the shelf for whatever. It's not like the phone/sim package where they can force activate it I guess, and who knows how long this stuff goes through their suppliers.

We shall see, and then if I find my way back to this long dead thread in the future to post old info that's out of date Embarrassment

Can you forward your messages or only calls ?
It does everything. Where it was a bit behind is the videos through SMS which is just terrible if you know what its doing behind the scenes, and the quality sucks. Like old newsreader encoding. Groups are better than they were for SMS.

If you guys are curious, just go set up a voice.google.com account to whatever number you have and play with it. its free and you'll get it pretty quick.

Since they tie the dwindling numbers to cellphones now, you have to keep it active or lose it, and there's a process (finally) to release a cell number that they say is tied to an account.

  1. Get the Mint sim and get that activated. You get a new number XXX
  2. Sign up at Google voice, and port your current number NNN there.
  3. Google voice will ask you to provide the number to forward your calls to. Give XXX. They will verify through call or text.
  4. Install Google Voice on your phone and login with your google voice account.
  5. If you are using Android phone, go to the settings on Google Voice and configure it to route ALL calls through Google Voice. From that point even if you use your phone's standard dialer, it will automatically go through Google Voice.
  6. Everyone you call will see NNN.
  7. Everyone who calls at NNN will end up ringing your phone at XXX (of course, they dont see XXX).
  8. When the mint sim expires, get a new sim and number YYY. Reconfigure Google Voice to use YYY instead of XXX

If you are using iPhone, you cant route native dialer through Google Voice. You have to place the call using the Google Voice app. Incoming calls will still ring your phone at XXX.
Thanks for the detailed steps. How about for the texting side, will you need to use the Google Voice app for your texts to appear as from NNN?

BTW there are some banks that ban using GV numbers as your 2FA, so if you're using such a bank with NNN as your 2FA, you'd need to remember to disable or change your 2FA number before porting to GV.

In for two, and here's what I did, used gift cards on my account to pay for this, in for two. Thought that was odd as it's buying gift cards with gift card partially at least. Anyway the churn worked. If you use 100% gift cards you get $6 shipping. If you put $1 on the red card shipping is free. Cant wait for my new gift cards! Big Grin

I have data only tmobile sims, use GV purely as an app without relay. You still need some texts send to a hard phone sim, and these sims, which do not make or receive calls or texts, still have a number, and can still receive inbound 2FA sms really just for that purpose. Works great, the underlying sim phone info is irrelevant, only the data. $10/month/2GB on TMO Primary network (but don't care about throttling as its clearly for maps etc not watching Britney vids

Mint has no premium data. Be aware of that if you live in densely populated areas like Manhattan, where half the time you have no connection. I switched to a different carrier with premium data and the experience became completely different.

Who has premium data without paying a premium price?

Does it have to be activated within 45 days ? My current service runs out 3 months out.
Can someone please shed some light on this? Can they enforce the 45-day activate clause anyhow ?

I don't think there is any expiry since you are simply buying a mint prepaid from target, there is no way Mint can enforce expiry on target stock. They usually enforce these things on their own deals. You IMO you can buy as many as you want and keep activating them over time. Worst case return - rebuy a new one at a later time from target.

I'm asking about the 3+3 months through mint with the target mint card.

You can combine this with items for store pickup. Once the sim has shipped, you can cancel the store pickup order.
how this works? i tried adding another item for pick up, but I still get charged $5.99 to ship the sim card

Never use Mint before, does the data include hotspot? thanks
Quote from MyDogSassy :
For unlimited you get 10gb hotspot then it's throttled. Always only get 480 stream resolution, so it's terrible to use on tvs bigger than 6"
20GB and under plans have the full allotment available for hotspot. Only the Unlimited is limited. :-)

Always new customers. Port your number to google voice, use this new plan to create a throw away number and then forward all calls to that number from google voice. When the 3 minths are up, pop in a new sim, activate and get a new number and then change your forwarding number to that new number and done. Rinse and repeat. You will always be able to use these deals then as a new customer
I have some doubts can you explain me… like I have old mint sim… but I haven't renewed any plan… by using this trick… I think I can't get any new messages to my old number

Does anyone know if USB tethering is similarly throttled?
