I have the ADATA 2TB version using this controller (so I was able to at least update the firmware), but the InnoGrit IG5236 controller has issues that I don't believe ACER has released a firmware update to address:

Keep in mind that this has the infamous Innogrit controller. Seems though the issue of the controller bricking the ssd is still apparent to this day and Innogrit hasn't come up with a proper solution yet.
I have several SSDs now and if I had the money and a chance to reset time, I'd get replace all of my SSDs with the SN850X. Nothing has come close to the SN850X interms of reliability. Not even the 990 pro.

Considering overall factors it might come down to this or $44 less in your pocket. You might not really notice a difference in either.

Researched this a bit yesterday, it is actually the company that makes them for Acer. Just to provide a bit more context, not that what you said isn't accurate.

Say more… I'm curious about how the SN850X is more reliable than the 990 Pro. Do you have anecdotal evidence? I feel like both are top tier, but reliability is hard to compromise.

Performance wise no, this SSD is only mid table. Price wise yes. Whether that constitutes a better deal depends on your own subjective weight on performance.

this has the InnoGrit IG5236 controller which has known problems. If want to keep your data spend $10 more get the Phison E18 4TB Nextorage drive on newegg.

This may not be topping the charts in any one category, but do you need it to? If sustained transfer speed matters most, spend more to get more. If bulk storage is all you need, cheaper is better. I have a pair of the SN850X and one 990Pro. The WD drives win in my benchmarks, so I don't understand how others are testing the same things with different end results. But regardless, I can't tell any difference what-so-ever between the SN850X and 990Pro. And I've used them both as boot drives! Currently running the 990 though if you were wondering.
