I saw an all metal version at costco for $5-7 more. get that.
I'm not going to do plyometrics workouts on it but I've done SEVERAL OTHER THINGS besides stand on it to change a filter.
That being said, it's solid but nothing special. Didn't think it was slick for $25 but decent for $20 if that's the best you can do these days.

So I dunno what made you feel unsafe, but if it is the same one, you should be fine.
At $20 (in today's dollars), it's an OK buy but I wouldn't pay more for it.

if you got it for $10 it's a slick deal. I have this for a few years I think it was $10 at the time.
It is almost double the weight of the 2 step models I have in the house. I guess when you add the 3rd step it needs to be heavier.
