I was waiting for a deal on this one because the same-price "Ultra" model has a thick cap containing the extra attachments, and that cap is more cumbersome and breaks open sometimes with the nozzles flying all over the place.

If your Waterpik hose broke, then don't buy a new Waterpik unit! You can buy a 3rd party hose and handle that screw into this unit. I actually like the 3rd party hose handles better because it uses a button instead of a switch to stop the water flow. That button allows you to have even more variable control over the stream, not unlike an Xbox controller trigger.

I agree that waterpik has more pressure but I find the single stream is less effective overall for me and at level 10 on waterpik, it can make my gums raw. I used level 6-7 on waterpik and level 10 on Phillips. The other nice thing about Phillips is that it's quieter. Anyway, just wanted to post an alternative to the market leader since Phillips is new to the game, just a few years now. I'm a fan of Phillips so far and hopefully it'll cause waterpik to up it's game in future models.

After 2yrs of use with Phillips, I am still very happy with the switch. One other thing I forgot to mention is that I feel like the Phillips has less mildew growth vs waterpik--this is hard to judge since I don't quite remember when my old waterpik started growing mildew but I did and I'd have to clean it out every so often. I cleaned my Phillips just a week ago for the first time using an old toothbrush and I feel like it was a lot less to clean vs waterpik. In 8yrs, I went thru two waterpiks, tube broke and motor broke. Tried to repair tube but it didn't work. Only time will tell with Phillips but I have confidence in them. Best wishes with everyone's hygiene

It has not been an unpleasant experience using philips so far.. Just that, I feel like I can do with the extra pressure... At times, after the waterpik if I do thread floss, there is hardly anything left, compare to Philips, where I usualy find things..Otherwise I think both are great product. I have yet to experience the leak from Philips, but I had waterpik for 10 years and philips for about 5 months, so we will see..

For water device with reservoir like these including humidifier, we are *supposed* to use purified water or at least filtered water, therefore minimize sediment and mildew, and cleanup effort.

I get it and I agree with you in the end that it would be nice if Phillips had a little more pressure for those times you just want to blast the "crap" out of your teeth.

Ugh, I already hate my whole night time routine, the last thing I want to do is make sure I have a jug of purfied water just to irrigate my teeth. The mildew doesn't bother me that much, it's pretty minimal overall on both devices.
