They didn't lay off the entire team, they laid off a few hundred out of 5k. Amazon like all other big tech companies have been on a firing spree especially to fund AI initiatives. As we stand now the functionality of the Nest hubs are very limited compared to the Echos. Amazon knows how to hemorrhage money better than anybody, soon to be a monopoly in another sector.

Never heard of Richard or his son.

Good price though. $40 is the sweet spot, imo. Almost tempted to grab one, but hard to justify when I've got a 1st gen and two 2nd gen hubs that still work fine.

Target rep responses intermittent. Mine said: "However, as you are valuable guest to Target I don't want you to get disappointed I'll help you with $5 off on the item if you place the order right now."

This one is the Thread Border router, right? I have the gen 1's but don't have a Thread router in my SmartThings environment, so this might be it.

I returned these, as the screen lags, its not a pleasant experience if you expect to use this to toggle smart switches

Google has made several announcements the past few weeks and months that make it very clear their focus is with seamless integration of generative AI into assistant and applying things such as Bard/Deepmind/Gemini to it's solutions like they already have in search and now also YouTube. To me google assistant still does what I need it to do on the hubs - which is mostly smart home related and as music and photo hubs. The lack of development lately on them is a tad frustrating yes, but I can also see why it makes no sense for them to keep the entire team working on an "old" solution.

Showing as $44, plus $4 eWaste Fee, plus $5 shipping = $53 shipped for me (in California).

Seems like in my case I would be better off ordering directly through Google for $50 with free shipping unless I am missing something.
