They look AMAZING on a tree. You just want to make sure you get the right length for the size of your tree so you dont' have to space them out too much to make the animations too pixely.

Personally since it's the same price, I would get a longer string light: Twinkly - Smart Light String 600 LED RGB Generation II - Multi

My last advice is to not mix different generations and LED types. Getting a Generation II like above is what I have and I love it.

I'd echo what others here have said. If you want it for your tree, go for the 600 count one for $10 more. The extra dots are nice, but TBH there's not a lot you can do with them other than to accent something. 400 lights are a little thin for a tree that's 7' tall or taller. 600 works well for our 9' tree, but I kinda wish it was 700!

So your 600 longer strand doesn't have dots, anyone here have dots they would recommend?

Dots are a separate type of light that they include in the package along with the twinkly string lights.

Those bottom few rows are gonna go through the strings quickly, 9' x 3.14 is basically 30 feet to just get around it once, which is basically 100 lights. you'd probably need between 800 and 1000 to do a tree that size.

I'd spring for the RGB-W if you like the option of a warm white color.

I have 1300 rgb on my house and cars slow down to see them. I have them dancing to music. Twinkly is an awesome company.

I am currently putting up 2,740 LEDs RGB outside. Six icicles and four 400 strings! I bought them on sale last year after Xmas and have been patiently waiting a whole year to use them!

I got these last year. For a 7' tree, you want 600-800 lights. I prefer 800 (2 sets of 400 in a group). For outdoors along the roofline, I bought the Festoon 20-ct and love them.

I strongly suggest you go with the RGBW version. The regular RGB does a terrible job at replicating white. And they can't be cross grouped (RGB doesn't group with RGBW).

Bought a 7.5' tree last year with 600 leds. Added a string of 600 and I think it looks excellent if not pushing it. My guess is 800-1200 is ideal.

The "default" white with the RGB lights is too blue for me. Add some yellow and they look perfect if you want the warm white look. I don't understand ANY complaints about the lack of RGBW. You CAN achieve very close to the warm white light look with the RGB lights.

Overall Ive been very happy with my twinkly lights both indoors and outdoors but it is expensive. I have no doubt that when their patents expire there will be a plethora of camera mapped lighting solutions available for cheap and have more features.

You can now link rgb and rgbw together so it acts as one strand / group, although it'll follow the rgb profile... Basically you lose the warm white.
