Settle down people. Its $350 on Amazon. Dont get razzle dazzled with the regular $749 tag at adorama

Checking listed and solds on ebay there is an alarming number of this model listed right now for parts only with various problems like error codes.

It could be a good deal but it could be not great.

I'm probably going to get flac for this but I see a lot of nonsense going on here. There is not going to be noticible audio differences or video differences between receiver brands, given similar DAC and amplifier specs. In the same price class, they are all going to use the same burr brown DACs. These units all put out <.08%THD so by definition the only differences have to lie in that .08%. This is a commodity market. The only real differences are aesthetic and feature set. So find the best price, regardless of brand, that has the feature set for YOU. Sometimes processing can suck, all of them have an off switch. Anyone who says "x" brand sounds terrible most likely needs to look at their room, their setup, or their own prejudice.

You can just call the manufacturer and have them fix/replace

Just crazy how expensive receiver tech has stayed and not really progressed (kinda same with projectors). I purchased basically the identical receiver 6 years ago (Nov 2017) from Best Buy for $249 around black friday, but this price wasn't uncommon. Model TX-NR656, says 7.1 but got a day one firmware update that upgraded it to atmos/dtsx 5.1.2. Also, be warned that Onkyo quality/reliability is sus, and my experience with customer support is non existent. My HDMI Out #2 died. Tried over and over to reach Onkyo for support (well within the warranty) and never got a response. Onkyo has left a very bitter taste in my mouth.

Amazon link to my old receiver [amazon.com]

Does Adorama pricematch their selves? I bought this a couple weeks ago for $319 from them.

cab any members with older Onkyo with Audessey comment on AccuEQ?

Got an old TXN626 from 2013 that still working and while this might be a nice upgrade to Atmos, hesitant given many Audio forums mention how AccuEQ is inferior to Audessey.

If within their return window it's worth a shot

Can we use wireless speakers with these receivers? Wires make it messy and my dog chews on wires.

Anyone know of a good deal for wireless speakers?

I got this receiver about a year ago, for $250 "open box" on eBay. It's been great! I was surprised much better it was for gaming, how I don't really experience lag, compared to my previous, older "TX-NR" Onkyo model that definitely did. My research showed this was the Costco version of the 6100, and the main difference was that this didn't have "THX". But I use it for 7.1 (not atmos) and it sounds good to me. It has a "voice" volume control that you can turn up to hear dialogue better which I love, since movies/shows have gotten so bad for dialogue mixes.

I recently got a PS5 and a new 4K TV with HDR and 140hz, and they weren't working with the Onkyo with those high settings at first… I got frustrated and updated the receiver's firmware, and it actually fixed it! I was impressed, that doesn't usually solve my problem, lol. You set the receiver to "8k enhanced" to support those features. So now I run a Switch, 4K Roku, and the PS5 through the receiver and control it all with a Harmony remote (RIP Harmony 😥).

No pre-outs if that's a deal breaker. Makes it harder to use an external power amp

Okay silly question because I don't know much about this stuff. I could do 7.1 with rear surround, side surround, or it also supports atmos so I could do 5.1 with an additional 2 upward firing atmos speakers as well?

Guys, I was gifted speakers for a 5.1 setup (4 satellites, 1 center, 1 giant woofer). How can I know if this (or other receiver) will work with them?

Both of my Onkyo units failed. Been using Yamaha receivers for a few years and have been happy with them.

All receivers will work with any speakers. It's red (+) and black (-).

Correct. 90% sure - as it is confusing to me also. Download the manual - it actually has good pictures of the layouts. What you said is correct. 7.1 or 5.1.2... or 5.2.2 (2 subs). I have a Yamaha rx-v473. Been kicking around getting this onkyo for a few days now. Hard to make the brand switch being so happy with my Yamaha. I have a use case for the second hdmi out... And I have the speakers already to do 7.1 or 5.2.2... but... afraid I will regret... 80w to 90w output a factor also... Need advice...

I purchased. Still within return window. I cannot get the F surround sound to work. Tried everything. Optical connection, hdmi, analog, network apps. When run the speaker tests they all work. Not sure what the issue is, will try for one more week and then will return it. I am very disappointed, looks like a very nice device, but they are building these things too complicated or faulty.
