Settle down people. Its $350 on Amazon. Dont get razzle dazzled with the regular $749 tag at adorama

Checking listed and solds on ebay there is an alarming number of this model listed right now for parts only with various problems like error codes.

It could be a good deal but it could be not great.

I'm probably going to get flac for this but I see a lot of nonsense going on here. There is not going to be noticible audio differences or video differences between receiver brands, given similar DAC and amplifier specs. In the same price class, they are all going to use the same burr brown DACs. These units all put out <.08%THD so by definition the only differences have to lie in that .08%. This is a commodity market. The only real differences are aesthetic and feature set. So find the best price, regardless of brand, that has the feature set for YOU. Sometimes processing can suck, all of them have an off switch. Anyone who says "x" brand sounds terrible most likely needs to look at their room, their setup, or their own prejudice.

You can just call the manufacturer and have them fix/replace

Treble/high sounded too unnatural or way too processed on OnkyoNR676 ..it was a deal breaker for me while listening to music..hence moved back to Yamaha which is more neutral/natural...not sure if newer models changed the sound signature... Anyways for 300$ any 7.2 amp will be a good deal to try on
While it is a generalization, I think Onkyo is a great receiver brand, but I also agree that Yamaha has a more neutral/smoother sound. I had an Onkyo receiver and upgraded to much better speakers. While the sound improved, I decided to eventually switch to a Yamaha receiver. It was a noticeable difference and sounded more neutral/natural and was exactly what I was looking for. I do understand that receivers technically should not make that much of a difference, but I suggest people demo if they can. When buying a car, you need to drive it. When buying a guitar, you need to play it. When buying shoes, you need to try them on. When buying sound equipment, you need to listen to it.

Interesting take. I am coming from a Yamaha RX-V473. Worried I may be disappointed. This is what finally pushed me over the edge.

-10w power increase
-Atmos support
-Ability to set crossover frequency per speaker set (Yamaha is a global setting). I have some small bose cubes I could use for height atmos and not gimp the entire set of speaker system crossover frequency.
-More HDMI inputs!
-Second HDMI output (i have a use for this)

I am very nervous this change. Happy with my sound now... But at this price it is hard to not give it a go...

We shall see. All the posts about "clicking" (relay?) or other genral issues make me nervous...

Okay silly question because I don't know much about this stuff. I could do 7.1 with rear surround, side surround, or it also supports atmos so I could do 5.1 with an additional 2 upward firing atmos speakers as well?
It supports 5.1.2.

Onkyos have had the clicking noise since forever. I would not be surprised if this one had it as well. That said, it's usually only on startup of a new program, ie when you start a movie. After that it settles in and stays quiet. It's noticeable but not annoying.

Cool. My Yamaha does this also... With any audio format changes. PCM to Dolby to Dolby Digital when a movie starts... Always a loud click when it changes sound format. Sounds like no change for me. Thanks for the calming reply Wink

I ordered this to compare with my Denon x2700h. I like that this outputs 2 video signals at the same time. It also has 2 distinct hookups just for zone 2 instead of sharing surround hookup. Chromecast built in is nice because it has allowed directly adding it to our Google home music group. Updated the firmware to the latest version, but sometimes the audio drops out for a few seconds on rare occasion. Haven't figured out the cause yet. Seems to happen shortly after playing around with a whole bunch of settings so it might be re-thinking what's hooked in. Audio quality is awesome. The subwoofer though doesn't punch quite the same was as it does connected to the denon, though I haven't tested that as thoroughly to see if it's just a setting thing somewhere. But the sub rumbles and fills the room wonderfully. I also love it has more than 10 point equalizer for every individual speaker. Feel free to ask any other questions you have about it

Probably because it says "natural sound" right there on the front panel 🧐

Have you done dual display? I was reading through some old posts from past deals - and someone mentioned that if using dual display they both have to display at the same resolution/spec/HDR or does not work? Just wondering. No need to go out of your way to test. I can figure out a way to get around this if true. Always something... Haha... Got love technology. Any loud clicking experiences while watching movies?

Thanks for sharing. Mine comes Wednesday.

"If devices with different resolutions are connected to HDMI OUT MAIN jack and SUB jack, images are output with the lower resolution" ... per manual. Right now this wont be an issue for me. FYI to others.

The price is good. But if you are trying to return it, you have to pay for the return shipping fee to ship back to Adorama.
The build quality is so so. Lower frequency response is not as good as my 13 year old Onkyo RC-260. Subwoofer does not have enough punch at 10Hz -20 Hz. I am returning it.

Can one calibrate it using microphone - and then if you need more bass - turn up the dial on the sub outside of the receiver config to get more bass? Or change the crossover setting? Seems adjustable right? What am I not understanding about your lack of punch statement?

You sound like you know what you are talking about... so I ask this not as a challenge to your statement - rather - to help me understand.

Thank you

Bought this last year from Costco.

It's fine, but has enough annoying glitches that id probably stay away from Onkyo in the future.

I've had to factory reset several times because it keeps losing audio from all inputs. Which is made 1000 times more annoying because the on-screen display works about 1 out of every 20 times I try to bring up the settings. Going through the settings on the front digital display is a tremendous pain in the ass. Apparently it's a known issue, without any real solution.

I don't have a instrument to test it. But I felt that the low pass filter is not very clean. I set LPF at 80Hz, but I could feel that a lot of 50 Hz signal was fed to my center channel and front R&L channels.
The super low bass signal (10-20 Hz) was not strong as my old receiver. I felt like this receiver does not have good response at super low frequency range. I set both of them at 0db, very thing else also the same. I could see the back and force movement of the subwoofer on the old receiver was a lot stronger than the new one. I was using the test signal from some of the Youtube videos.

I currently have the tx-rz810. Any idea how this compairs? My 810 doesn't have built in Alexa which is a pain.
