Checking listed and solds on ebay there is an alarming number of this model listed right now for parts only with various problems like error codes.
It could be a good deal but it could be not great.

Switched to yamaha, everything works as expected, no issues.
I miss the display of "Dolby Digital" - on the display when playing such content. Was a nice quick "yup, things are working' - now I need to hit an info button on the remote to check.
Menus and navigation are obviously very different. But not bad.
I have not browsed to the receivers web UI yet (different than the app) - that is supposed to have some important and handy settings only found there? Also web UI has a way to backup and restore settings? Will be nice for trying new settings and having a path to revert back.
I would say if just doing a swap - dont expect anything drastic changing with sound (coming from rx-v473).
UPDATE - had some more time to play. Really liking the new "full" sound I am getting turning on the center width. I have a very wide and close seating arrangement - this has really helped with dialog. I do find my sound stage having more ooph for some reason. Might be because i set my surround crossover @ 70 for everything.... was 80 or 90 on the Yamaha. The speaker calibration with mic wants it in the 50-60s.
Happy... just not blown away in awe... if anything it speaks to the quality of the Yamaha.
UPDATE: Not in manual... go to IP address of receiver... ###.###.###.###/websetup.htm --- to access webUi. if prompted for a username/password... its 'ciuser' for both. Not sure what new functions are here - but looks like just an easier way to manage things. You can also backup and update your configuration file. You can also print your current settings.

But, to answer your original question about why, and there are several reasons... for me it's because most TVs can't do a second zone. Again, not everyone needs this feature but it is great for me... I have a second TV on the other side of the wall that the main TV is on, so I can route one source to the main TV while routing another source to the second TV when necessary (ex. one person wants to watch netflix while someone else wants to play the PS5). Because the Apple TV remote and the PS5 controllers are wireless, someone can just take one into the next room and use that device. It's almost like having 2 PS5s and 2 Apple TVs.
I also have the sound for the second zone going to outdoor speakers. If we're using the second zone on the other TV, I'll mute the sound for zone 2 so my PS5 isn't blasting outside. But if we want music outside, then I will turn them up. Either way, the HDMI still passes audio to the second TV, and with a wireless gaming headset you can still play PS5 in the next room while talking to your teammates.
It's usually very easy to route wires straight through (or up) inside walls (no insulation), so it's easy to get an HDMI cable to a TV on the other side of the wall.
The super low bass signal (10-20 Hz) was not strong as my old receiver. I felt like this receiver does not have good response at super low frequency range. I set both of them at 0db, very thing else also the same. I could see the back and force movement of the subwoofer on the old receiver was a lot stronger than the new one. I was using the test signal from some of the Youtube videos.
I use the zone 2 video for a second TV on the other side of the same wall that the main TV is on, so someone can watch a different source on that screen (ex. netflix on one screen, PS5 on the other). Then, like you, I have the zone two speakers on my patio for outdoor music.
