I bought this amp at $350 during black Friday. Good amp but I'm pretty upset that Adorama sent it with zero packaging. Not even a scrap of packaging paper. The OEM package was just sliding around in the shipping box banging against the sides.

I can't stress enough how good this amp / all in one unit is. Killer price.

Super nice warm and still very clean sound. High quality and powerful. Perfectly channel balanced except at almost inaudible low volume. The XBass is super fun. A steal at this price. BTW, Adorama was kind enough to do a price adjustment from the previous $349.

Also really enjoying the unit. Bought it during the first $349 sale on Sept 29. I wonder the chances they'd do a price adjustment slightly a month out...

Nice! I was just about to buy a ifi Hip-Dac2. I was sleepy last night, so I held off. Then this just pops up. Went ahead and grabbed this since they are selling for more used.

From iFi:
What is the difference between the Micro iDSD Finale and the Micro iDSD Signature?
"The new Micro iDSD Finale is our latest product in our Micro line of product. The Micro iDSD Finale is an Adorama exclusive product, with only 1,000 units produced. It features the latest 16-core XMOS processor, which supports MQA decoding. The volume potentiometer has also received an upgrade, allowing the Finale to have the best channel balance low volumes, thereby rectifying Left/Right tracking even while the volume is low. We have also upgrade the capacitors to ELNA's high grade capacitor, ELNA Silmic II. Known for its superior acoustic characteristics, the Silmic II uses silk fibre to produce a sound that is both more powerful and mellower."

I bought a creative sound blast gc7 DAC because people raved about "how awesome things sound now with a DAC". I noticed 0 different from my built in sound chip on my high end motherboard. Unless you have like a 49$ motherboard you probably not going to notice much difference. Or maybe my headphones suck too much to notice any significant change, who knows.

It has a 4800mAh battery for one thing, so it's portable. It's got a bass EQ feature which some people like. It has a spacializer setting that is actually well reviewed. It has a little more input options.

I've read many hours over the past several days from dozens of sources preparing for a purchase, and the consensus seems to be that modern motherboard DACs are exceptional. I needed a portable headphone amplifier anyway, so I'm giving it a go.

Is that an amp in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

Curious, how long does the battery last?

Why can't it be both?

iFi says it lasts up to 12 hours, but that is probably at 50% volume on some neutral music with bass boost turned off. Really jamming, I bet it will be about half of that. Prior to purchasing this I was looking at the Hip-Dac2 which is on sale now for $135. It has a 2200mAh battery.

Sorry I should have phrased my question better. All things equal (not counting bells and whistles, or portability), at the core service of plain sound amplification, would this sound any better than the Magni? As cheap as the Magni is, I think it's pretty well received as excellent sounding.

I use this to drive my sennheiser HD 800s. Bass boost feature is awesome for reference headphones like HD 800s because it can sound flat. With little bit of eq, it sounds phenomenal. More than enough power to drive the power-hungry HD 800s. I have not used the high end tube amps costing >$1000 with my cans (I am sure they will sound fine). But for $300, I think this is one of the best contender in the market

These definitely are not meant to drive something as difficult as the HD800. I personally have the ifi idsd black label, but Id be surprised if the power levels are that much better on the finale. IME, theres a substantial difference driving even my relatively easy to drive Audio Technica W3000ANV with the ifi vs a ha5000anv. The highs are definitely not very resolving resulting in piercing highs with the ifi. I'm surprised you're not experiencing that with something as treble heavy as a Hd800. I also had an HD800 but I had to have one of the >$1000 tube amps to listen to it and tame the treble, a Zana deux se. Ultimately, I sold the entire Hd800 and Zana setup once I heard some high end IEMs like the Monarch and Unique Melody Mest MK2. As a plus, the ifi powers the IEMs very well. I found little to no advantage using a desktop app to power IEMs over a portable amp.
