Lol. No. You do not. I have no idea where you're getting that info. For uncompressed Atmos, you need eARC. You absolutely get Atmos through plain ARC, without HDMI 2.1, albeit compressed. Stop spouting misinformation. Atmos has been around since before HDMI 2.1. Are you saying no one got Atmos for the first 5 years that it existed? The vast majority of TVs don't even have 2.1 or eARC. You're saying hardly anyone can get Atmos, which is completely false. Before I had my LG C2, I had a crappy LG LED 4K TV, with an Atmos soundbar system that only had ARC, not eARC, and I got Atmos through it. It was compressed, so it didn't sound as good, but it was still Atmos. You're basically telling me that all of the overhead sounds that I heard weren't actually there. Lol. A lot of low to mid tier Atmos soundbar systems don't have eARC. You're either making stuff up as you go along, or you've been very misinformed. Either way, you're straight up wrong, and I'm not wasting anymore time with you. I just hope other people don't listen to you. You have no idea what you're talking about.
This tv is regularly priced at 550, not really a screaming deal but still a solid price for a 60 hz OLED
You don't need 2.1 for Dolby Digital Plus or Atmos. Lol. 2.1 is needed for 120hz gaming, but this TV is only 60hz anyways. Whatever sound system you get just has to have support for Atmos and Digital Plus, and then you just use the regular HDMI Arc port, and you'll get both. It's optical that can't support Atmos or Digital Plus.

I'm going back and forth between this and the Sony X85K. With this LG you get the OLED quality picture, but only 60hz and the risk of OLED burn-in. With the Sony you get the 120hz and little risk of burn-in, but it's still LED where black is just a dark grey. I don't know. I could go either way. There's really only about 5 or 6 games with meaningful 120fps modes.

I have this tv in my bedroom. Super happy with it, killer picture (calibrated). Speakers are decent but have hooked to soundbar.

Did you use a device to calibrate or did you get numbers from a forum/website?

Get the LG, according to Consumer Reports. Get the X90 if you do get a Sony.

I have the 55 A2. Not very happy with it, and came from a 10 year old 42" 720p plasma. Black crush is terrible, minimum brightness is too bright in a dark room, and all the fancy ai dimming does not seem to work, and glitchy firmware where I always have to switch the input on startup.

Settings play a huge part in that department. Out of the box they overdo black levels for sales floors. I used to calibrate tvs and OLEDs are beautiful when done correctly. As for firmware you should contact LG as that shouldn't be normal. You have a hiccup in your hdmi connection and changing input resets it. If inside warranty, they should send someone out to help look at it.

FWIW, just returned this after two weeks and opted for the Hisense U7 instead. Looks just as good (blacks, contrast, etc) and better brightness. Can't comment on software since I am using an AppleTV

Burn-in is such an uncommon issue these days. There are so many safety features now, that you have to absolutely abuse the TV to get burn-in. The only other way to get it quickly is to just get a bad panel. I have friends who've been trying to get burn-in on 4 and 5 year old TVs, to make use of their warranty, and they can't get it. I have around 4,000 hours on my C2, and I leave it on static images all the time, and leave the TV on for hours when I'm not even around, and there's not a shred of burn-in. There have been tests where the TV was left on for an entire year and no burn-in. So, don't let the old fear of that keep you from getting an OLED. They have incredible picture.

Is your audio getting worse? I have the 55C1 and mainly use TV speaker on Clear Voice Pro, it might be me but it sounds quieter lol

But yeah I leave mine on all day on various streaming services and no burn-in

In regards to the always having to change inputs when booting up, it's tied to a setting on the TV (I saw it buried when I was trying to get ARC working). It wants to default to their Smart interface instead of the last input on the TV.
