Currently running phantom center with a pair of Polk XT60 tower speakers.
Know general best practice is to match center and front speakers when possible. Unfortunately, the Polk XT centers are MTM configuration which supposedly perform poorly off-axis, so looking for a good 3-way center to add to my HT setup.

As far as sound, when watching movies & TV most of the center is dialog, the L/R & rears are for music & SFX. Your AVR most likely will be hi passing and EQ'ing the center at a different frequency than the L/R (and surrounds) so matching brands is really not needed.
When listening to music, the center is off (or in multi-channel fake or "stereo" surround, the center should be off or turned down as far as it will go, to not ruin the stereo imaging, unless you're just in "party mode" and you want it up).
It may be unpopular among the snobbys, but it's the truth. If everyone wanted perfect "timbre matched" surround systems, they'd buy the same exact speaker for every position.
Finally switched just the speakers out for Emotiva B1 and the C1 center and it was night and day better for HT use. Much clearer, the sound was good on Elac but voices were muddied and hard to hear in comparison. I kept the Elac sub, the others I sold after trying the Emotivia,
I'd highly recommend those if the Elacs in this post do not work for someone. Hoping and thinking these are a major step up from the debut 6 series I was running so maybe it's moot, but wanted to share.

They're ok....very low sensitivity and 4 ohm impedance. Need a lot of power to drive em.....
actually currently looking for an upgrade to these and surprised these are priced so low.
I paid $350 per speaker in 2016

It sounded great with a Topping DAC/Preamp and Crown XLS1502 amp in 2 channel.
I have "upgraded" to 5.1 but the sound was better in the 2 channel set up I had.
Are the version 2's a worthy upgrade for slightly more than double the money?
I have the debut b5s that I got from a slickdeal a few years ago for I think 129 for the pair. I like those a lot… I know these will be much better. But I'm not sure whether to just buy these or wait longer for the 5.2's.
I have a Yamaha Aventage rx-a740 currently. (Another great slickdeal)
