Why do people say it's not a deal, random guess some lower value but don't bother to post a link to such a "deal"? If this name-brand prebuilt PC should be under $800 then LINK IT to an exact spec unit that is name-brand prebuilt in stock for delivery for under $800!

Worse, it's the 8GB 4060Ti. Really, that should knock it down to under $800

It's the video card that pushes the system to over $1k. The system technically has no shortcomings.
8GB VRAM is a shortcoming

is this better deal?
I think the $900 CyberPowerPc system at Costco is a better deal. It's very nearly similar in specs.

I honestly don't think it makes much difference. The Costco system has twice as much RAM so I think it'll be better. Plus, it's cheaper too.

Having recently upgraded my R16 with a 4090FE, I would definitely recommend skipping this and instead getting a build with the 1000W PSU so that you can upgrade the graphics card down the road whenever needed. While theoretically you could grab a 1000W Dell/Alienware PSU off of Ebay later on, it's going to be a ton of work to replace the existing PSU in this case which kind of defeats the purpose of buying a pre-built.

General notes regarding the R16 - loving it, super quiet, runs cool. I think past Alienware cases had bad thermals/noise based off the comments I see here but I don't even know this thing is on. Would buy again.

waiting for 4080 / 4090 deal with AMEX
Sorry you missed the previous BF deal.
15% CB + split with multiple AMEX cards. Got my R16 4080 at that time.
Don't know when will that show up again..

Very weak PSU.
Dell does offer an R16 w/13700F and 4070 with the 500W platinum PSU. So, yeah, not the best PSU, but I wouldn't call it weak, especially when there are tons of other gaming pc "deals" with 360-460W bronze PSUs with weaker CPU and GPU configs and 8gb RAM. Dell Platinum PSU's are also extremely reliable.

Right? 2 weeks ago, same PC, $100 more (not counting a very YMMV Amex discount) was +28 thumbs up. Today, $100 less, everyone is crapping on it. Go figure.
Yeah, I don't get it honestly. Out of curiosity, I went on PC Part Picker and got $1125 for CPU, GPU and then the cheapest option for all other comparable components (so Platinum PSU, 5600mts ram, liquid cooling).

In my opinion, the aesthetics of the R16 are great. The last few gens always reminded me of my Clairion air purifier. I think Dell is moving in the right direction with the XPS/Aurora lately but still wouldn't pair an i9 with a 3090/4090 in these systems. But an i7 and 4060ti or 4070 should stay cool enough and honestly be a viable desktop for 6+ years. Heck, I've got a XPS 8910SE that is over 6 years old and it does a great job even at 1440p. Paid $1200 for it back in 2017 and this R16 would likely blow my setup out of the water and for nearly $200 less (after 5 % dell C B offer through chase).

Have to click the OP and click customize and select the leftmost system.

Then can add the 4090 and 1kw PSU.

Actually that makes it $3050, no $3100, so $50 cheaper.

I ordered one earlier this month. $120 amex back, $100 chase, $100 Dell dollars and hopefully some cashback.
Nice, great deal finding work right there!!

How can you possibly say with a straight face that an i5 over an i7 won't make a difference?

Generally speaking, the i7 will always outperform the i5 of an equal generation.

Whether it's as impactful in specific software is an entirely different question than what was asked and one that you can't answer.

It's a common phenomenon on slick deals. Vast misunderstanding of the words "should" and "want". "This should be x price." What they mean to say is "I want this to be x price." The price "should" be the maximum the business thinks it can sell for. They "want" the price to be lower. They can't separate emotion from reason thus "want" becomes "should".

I think you are confusing it with the R15 review. But, to be fair, that had an i9 and 4090 (IIRC), which will of course be hot in that chassis. i7 and 4060ti would be a good pair for this design, drawback being 4070 being the only feasible upgrade.

Maybe the R14 or below...

I have had an R15 for 1 year with a 4090 and ZERO heating issues. They changed the airflow on the R15 and mine has never even gotten hot under full load gaming.

The R16 is a newer smaller case, so we'll have to see. Not sure why they've dumbed down the case but maybe to make it more standard?

Cheers,

Bub
