It is an Internet gateway with FW/IPS/NAT and a switch all in one (no WiFI). This gets you into the Ubiquiti system with its ability to manage other Ubiquiti devices centrally. It is what many would consider prosumer networking gear since you are using a separate Internet gateway, access points, POE switches, etc.

Last I checked UDM (and UDMP) doesn't have an OpenVPN client which is honestly ridiculous.
Is there some upside other than a hint of convenience? I just set up a L2TP when I originally had a UDM 3P and did the manual "Add VPN configuration" in my devices. I had to google up the exact steps but it was maybe 5 minutes worth of work one time.

It does, as of the most recent update I believe. I just set it up on mine 2 weeks ago.
Oh damn, you're right. Thanks!

Bought one of these recently with high hopes and ended up returning it.

Out of the box, it had a boot loop problem that following Ubiquiti's instructions was not able to be solved. I was able to get it boot and actually install several updates after a reset, but ultimately I was never actually get in to perform any kind of management of the device.

Another issue I have is the only ports capable of >1gbe were 10/11, which required you to purchase a separate sfp+ module. To me, this limits growth of this device as more consumer products are coming with 2.5gbe built in.

As it is, when I placed this between my Orbi and 2gbps fiber line my speeds decreased wirelessly from ~1300mbps to ~9xxmbps.
I didn't realize the Orbi's had 2.5/10g RJ45. That's neat!

I wish this would fit in my very tight wiring cabinet. Would love to replace my USG-3.

I wish I had rack space. They need a smaller version to mount vertically against the wall.

I assume the G4 Doorbell Pro is wired. Does anyone have one? What's the difference between it and a nest or other brand?
That version is wired, other versions are POE. The quality is higher, no membership fees if your in the ubiquiti system. An alternative if you don't want to invest in ubiquiti would be a eufy. Don't buy a google or ring.

This is supported. I am connected to my VPN provider via WG and have specific device's traffic routed through it only.
Thank you, and repped. 👍

You got the wrong device for the situation. You want the UDM Pro SE and a 10gbps switche to handle the +1gbps connections.

But something to remember, consumer devices make you think max speed to one device is good. These prosumer devices are about total throughput so multiple devices can handle the bandwidth. I've found that Unifi doesn't allow any one device to use up all available bandwidth, and that's a good thing (just not if you're doing a bunch of speedtests)

I am still using an EdgeRouter 12, but have several unifi access points, lite switches, and a unifi standard 24 poe. I'm running the unifi app in docker which has been fairly reliable. My only issue with the router is that I've had a really hard time getting WAN load balancing configured.

I've considered switching to a dream machine just for simplicity, and because I know when the EdgeRouter fails eventually I'm going to be out of luck for a couple of weeks failing back to some junk I have around.

Any opinions on whether I should upgrade now or just wait for a sale on the next gen?

Edit: I have my own NVR, and other than a single pane of glass and the IPS, I really will only use the firewall/router/switch functionality.

This can be mounted on a wall, without a rack, if necessary.
