We run ours year round and they last about 2 years. None have been this brand, but they all seem to be the same thing, just rebranded.

Our current one won't die just yet, it's a fighter, but it's starting to make noise, will make ice regardless of water level (it makes tiny contact lens size ice if low), and the lid falls off lol.

Even though it works, this is a good enough price to keep it as a backup until the other one finally stops working.

Our fridge has the ability to make ice, but we prefer these ice machines because we can easily use water that's gone through our Berkey filter first. ✌️

When the warranty is up and the freezer gives up the ghost, removing the glass top creates an insulated camping toilet. The lid makes a perfect seat. Nice! Cowboy

no. this freezes to around 27 degrees. Ice out of the freezer is -5. get an ice bin while you are at walmart to keep in the freezer. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Steril...e/40667567

you have to dump this once an hour otherwise it fills up and shuts off and the ice will melt down back into the water

We had one in our house but are renting now. This is way faster than the one in our fridge. It makes over a pound an hour. and if it breaks you don't have to get a plumber to replace it. Check the videos online I promise you will find that it is the most frequently broken part of a fridge. just ask anyone with a samsung or LG

it's you, not them.

what's worse is if it leaks behind the fridge. I have a neighbor that is a plumber and he didn't catch it until $5K of damage. And since it is not an "occurrence" but a continuing condition insurance doesn't pay. They consider it failure to maintain your property.

Oh wtf I just wanted a little ice maker that I could just leave sitting on the counter. does this exist?

If I have to take the ice out in a few hours and put it in the freezer I'd just stick with my cheapo plastic ice cube trays so I don't have to do multiple steps for ice lol

I actively avoid them, they are the first thing to break. I do not need the headache. Service call is twice what type thing costs. Goes on a mini fridge and you still come out on top.

Exactly! Our ice maker on my Kenmore Elite refrigerator was the first and only thing to break. The replacement ice maker broke within 3 years when the extended warranty had already expired. Never again.

And on top of that, if the ice sits for too long inside the freezer, it will start picking up a smell from the frozen foods.

Run DISTILLED Water only through these ice makers wont break down ! The heavy minerals in water will build up on the ice maker parts, but Distilled should last twice as long. I was going through ice makers 1 to 2 years, before getting the tip to use DISTILLED to fill maker with only.

Would it be OK using tap water filtered through a brita jug filter?

Or in my case hooked up to city water that tastes like a pool. I use my ice for chilling things only - not drinks. Been thinking about one of these for a while. To add my reverse osmosis water to.

I don't think they'd be interested in a research study on themselves. Even less so, I don't want to pay for them to participate but thanks for the suggestion.
