Mazda is having a hard time moving inventory. I bought a new CX-5 Signature at the peak of the pandemic shortages with 0.9% financing and $1000 below MSRP.

I absolutely love the car. As absurd and silly as this sounds, it's far more Cayenne than RAV-4. My only complaint is that gas mileage is mediocre to poor.

One thing i've learned in life is, once you make a large purchase, like a house or car, etc. Just stop looking and researching, you'll only be disappointed

Waiting to get a CX-90 hybrid next year. The $7500 tax credit makes it pretty close in price to the CX-5 Premium Plus. Kind of a no brainer at that price for a significantly more substantial vehicle..

After running the numbers yesterday and exchanging emails with the dealership I've used before, I'm going in at lunch to have my 2021 CX-5 Grand Touring appraised for trade-in. Based on all indications, I'll be trading it in for a 2024 CX-5 Premium Plus with the same options/accessories and slightly lowering my monthly payment (yay for retaining value).

I've owned 2019 and 2021 CX-5 models and absolutely loved them both. I just don't think the features:cost ratio is better anywhere else for someone who does a little bit of everything. From the safety side, I'll now never buy a vehicle without a heads up windshield display and headlights that turn into a corner, and other vehicles with comparable comfort features like ventilated seats, heated rear seats, wireless infotainment, and a heated steering wheel cost a lot more.

Looking forward to when Mazda does a comparably-sized plug-in hybrid.

What do you expect? Wages are up. Raw materials are up,,,,
Not targeting Mazda but just because wages are up doesn't mean it is fair to further increase its profits. The economy hasn't seen fair wage increases in relation to inflation in SO DAMN LONG. Literally inflation was announced at around 8% and companies began charging 20%+. That don't scale right

my wife loved her Mazda 3, but we were hit by a drunk driver at the peak of the shortages and went with the CX5. Basically feels like the same chassis, but bigger. I have had a couple of stupid little issues with it that seem to have plagued Mazda for awhile (Problematic Thermostat/sensor for emissions, and a headlight "motor" going out). It was all covered by warranty and I wouldn't even consider it much of an issue...but the Mazda dealer in the town I moved to is also the Hyundai/Kia dealer, and they are trash. Because of all the recalls for those two brands due to the cars being stolen, it is impossible to get the service completed on our car in a timely manner.

If I was still living in LA, this wouldn't have been a problem.

Just a data point for people. Loving the car otherwise, and there is something to be said about how it "feels" when you are driving a Mazda.

Mazda has been great lately. The CX-5 is easily the most popular but I opted for the CX-50 instead and have been super happy with it for the last ~7 months
What are the significant differences between the CX-5 and the CX-50, except for the third row of seats?

You left out the part where if you go used, you have an extra 10k in your pocket to invest for 3 years. Plus all the dealership fees you save by getting a used car. You can even skip the (frankly unfair) used-car sales tax if you buy from a private individual.

OK, so I left out several parts of this comparison. (thanks to you and other posters who pointed it out)

Pros of buying used

1) opportunity cost lost of the $10k saved. Can invest like you said and earn maybe 5.5% from treasuries.
2) dealer fees

Pros of buying new

1) WARRANTY!!!!!
2) Close to 0.9% financing when interest rates on most car loans are 8%+.

As for the sales tax, I don't know of a state that doesn't charge sales tax on used cars. I know that my former state NY and current (California) certainly do.

My issue with Mazda is the trims, I know a lot of makers do this but things like Auto gate lift should be offered as a upgrade or with the lower models... Mazda you have to buy the something like the 2 or 3rd highest priced model... This goes for a few other features...
Or even features not being the same across different models.

For example, my 2016 6 touring (mid) trim has auto up/down driver control for all 4 windows, and has air vents for the back row, but on my wife's 2016.5 CX-5 grand touring (top, at the time) trim, the driver does not have auto up/down for the other windows, and there are no air vents for the back, even though it is a crossover SUV!

Btw is Mazda still only installing halogen headlights or are they finally joining the modern car world with led or at least hid headlights?

Took advantage of this deal, since I've wanted a new car for a long time and 0% makes it a fairly solid deal today, even if prices may drop in the future. I'd love to see a Toyota Venza at 0%, but we all know that's not happening.

Was approved for 0% - 763 FICO from report
OTD Price 37600 + free wheel locks

CX5 Grey (+500 for color) Premium Plus Trim. Very happy.

Both CX5 and CX50 do NOT have third row seats.

Differences between those 2: mainly cx5 geared towards city driving and CX 50 towards off roads. (personally I HATE the seat comfort level of the CX 50). Test drive both trims and determine for yourself)

However, CX5=mi Japan; CX 50 = Mi USA (with Japan made components)

I have been in the market for a few months to get a new compact SUV for my daughter. Having read all the reviews, in 2023–24, the Honda CR-V is number one and the Mazda CX-5 is number two. For some reason, Toyota dropped the ball on the Rav4, though it was still a good one. Reviews showed it lacked a lot of things, including handling and driving experience, and fell back to numbers 7 & 8.
So definitely look for the 0% APR Mazda.
My friend has been driving a CX-9 for the last 7-8 years, and he loved it, so far, he says it has almost zero maintenance and very reliable car.

I have a 2012 mazda 3 that my wife bought new. We absolutely loved that car the first 5 years we had it, then we reached 5 years and 1 month and it has been a headache ever since, mostly having to do with electronics (including airbag module) and transmission. I'd happily lease a new Mazda, but I'm a buy it for life kind of person and I would never do it again, as much as I like their cars new... I was waiting to buy a CX5 diesel and mx5 when I got plagued with issues and burned by the warranty.
Just remember, back then they partnered with ford which is why they weren't near as reliable as they are today. Once they broke that relationship off, they have been on par, if not surpassed, Toyota and Honda on reliability. Also, for wahetver its worth, I have a 2013 Mazda that has been a god damn tank. It will likely outlive me at this point.

LED lights. So bright that I'm afraid people will go road rage at me at night. But I do appreciate the extra brightness. Make the curve turning so much better experience now.
