I absolutely love the car. As absurd and silly as this sounds, it's far more Cayenne than RAV-4. My only complaint is that gas mileage is mediocre to poor.

I've owned 2019 and 2021 CX-5 models and absolutely loved them both. I just don't think the features:cost ratio is better anywhere else for someone who does a little bit of everything. From the safety side, I'll now never buy a vehicle without a heads up windshield display and headlights that turn into a corner, and other vehicles with comparable comfort features like ventilated seats, heated rear seats, wireless infotainment, and a heated steering wheel cost a lot more.
Looking forward to when Mazda does a comparably-sized plug-in hybrid.
If I was still living in LA, this wouldn't have been a problem.
Just a data point for people. Loving the car otherwise, and there is something to be said about how it "feels" when you are driving a Mazda.
OK, so I left out several parts of this comparison. (thanks to you and other posters who pointed it out)
Pros of buying used
1) opportunity cost lost of the $10k saved. Can invest like you said and earn maybe 5.5% from treasuries.
2) dealer fees
Pros of buying new
1) WARRANTY!!!!!
2) Close to 0.9% financing when interest rates on most car loans are 8%+.
As for the sales tax, I don't know of a state that doesn't charge sales tax on used cars. I know that my former state NY and current (California) certainly do.

For example, my 2016 6 touring (mid) trim has auto up/down driver control for all 4 windows, and has air vents for the back row, but on my wife's 2016.5 CX-5 grand touring (top, at the time) trim, the driver does not have auto up/down for the other windows, and there are no air vents for the back, even though it is a crossover SUV!
Btw is Mazda still only installing halogen headlights or are they finally joining the modern car world with led or at least hid headlights?

CX5 Grey (+500 for color) Premium Plus Trim. Very happy.
Differences between those 2: mainly cx5 geared towards city driving and CX 50 towards off roads. (personally I HATE the seat comfort level of the CX 50). Test drive both trims and determine for yourself)
However, CX5=mi Japan; CX 50 = Mi USA (with Japan made components)
So definitely look for the 0% APR Mazda.
My friend has been driving a CX-9 for the last 7-8 years, and he loved it, so far, he says it has almost zero maintenance and very reliable car.
