Mazda is having a hard time moving inventory. I bought a new CX-5 Signature at the peak of the pandemic shortages with 0.9% financing and $1000 below MSRP.

I absolutely love the car. As absurd and silly as this sounds, it's far more Cayenne than RAV-4. My only complaint is that gas mileage is mediocre to poor.

One thing i've learned in life is, once you make a large purchase, like a house or car, etc. Just stop looking and researching, you'll only be disappointed

What are the significant differences between the CX-5 and the CX-50, except for the third row of seats?
Neither have a third row AFAIK. You might be thinking of the 90.

As far as I recall the 5 is slightly faster in straight line acceleration. The 50 is larger and uses torsion rear suspension, has more interior/trunk space, more ruggedized (read less soft touch materials), available off road trim, more towing capacity, heavier steering feel, bigger moon roof.

here's a head to head comparison https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8rXmbUB-sI
and a solid overview of the 50 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fNCkb0oIRk

YMMV on the seats. Tons of videos comment on them but I've never noticed the middle stitch at all

You know what's funny. Toyota and Mazda share the same assembly lines in Mississippi or Alabama I think. Plus when my brother-in-law bought the CX-5 2021. It was financed by Toyota motor company
Yep, many of there models are like that. Cx-5 is even better, as most (if not all) are assembled in Japan and they take their QA ridiculously seriously. That was the biggest point of why we chose CX-5 over the CX-50 which is a great vehicle in its own right. We keep our vehicles for 10+ years, and fully expect this CX-5 to join the club with my 10+yo camry and Mazda5.

Still shocks me that mazda has as little market share as they do, as majority of their fleet runs circles around their competitors.

Or even features not being the same across different models.

For example, my 2016 6 touring (mid) trim has auto up/down driver control for all 4 windows, and has air vents for the back row, but on my wife's 2016.5 CX-5 grand touring (top, at the time) trim, the driver does not have auto up/down for the other windows, and there are no air vents for the back, even though it is a crossover SUV!

Btw is Mazda still only installing halogen headlights or are they finally joining the modern car world with led or at least hid headlights?
Got LED headlights on the '23 I got in June. Man those suckers are bright. Kinda feel bad for all the other cars as I would assume its blinding them.

Anyone here who was debating between RAV4 and CX-5 and decided to go with CX-5, and why so? Curious to hear your thoughts. Without a question CX-5 is far better priced but it is a smaller car than RAV4 and perhaps not as well recognized as the Toyota brand. I was 100% going for RAV4 but started feeling it is overpriced for what you're getting and you're getting a lot less for the buck. If anyone here has owned both cars, has both their reliability been about the same?

Just remember, back then they partnered with ford which is why they weren't near as reliable as they are today. Once they broke that relationship off, they have been on par, if not surpassed, Toyota and Honda on reliability. Also, for wahetver its worth, I have a 2013 Mazda that has been a god damn tank. It will likely outlive me at this point.
That's promising - I thought the relationship with Ford ended years earlier. I *want* to want a mazda again...

"Over-the-air (OTA) updates are becoming more common as new vehicles increasingly feature built-in wireless connections. Ford, Mercedes Benz, Tesla, and GM have used OTA updates to address product recalls. With so many automakers now sending OTA updates, isn't it time to replace our tendency to focus on the negative connotations associated with a "recall?" Recall no more! Why don't automakers simply say a NHTSA-approved update will take place?"

The only reason this dinosaur government entity uses the term recall, is because they haven't bothered to make a new term. OTA software updates are new. They didn't exist until recently, and that's why NHTSA uses that outdated term. Give the dinosaurs a few more years and they'll finally figure it out.
LMAO nice strawman argument when faced with the fact Tesla's recall involving software is factually a recall. "Oh I say they need a new term because I reject current industry definition when it fits my Tesla worshipping narrative"

If you care about a fuel prices efficiency, RAV4/ hybrid is a way to go.

I was in this boat earlier this year as the old lady was ready for a new vehicle. Reliability is same for both. Rav4 is bigger and better on gas, especially if you get the hyrbid one. However, the mazda was not only cheaper, looked better (subjective), more refined interior, but main thing is mazda just drive unlike any of their competitors. Its hard to explain, but many people alluded to it in this thread. The "zoom zoom" thing is legit. Their handling is unmatched compared to their competitors. Also add the fact that they didnt jump on the CVT train, which is a good thing cuz the jury is still out on CVT reliability.

You cant go wrong with either. I tell everyone in the market for a new car, stick with toyota, honda, or mazda and you will be fine unless they keep their car for only few years, then get whatever the hell you want.

Very much agree. 2017 CX-5 owner here and its an absolutely great vehicle - handles great, has high quality interior and very reliable. I havent changed as much as a light bulb in the 6.5 years of owning it. The first expenses on the car were this year for brakes and tires.
The Mazdas give the owner so much more than Toyota for same or better reliability.

Cool, until they do make that change, then the definition of a recall is what it is.....and it's not what that poster claims out of ignorance of industry lingo. There also seems to be a pattern of devout Tesla people really having no in depth knowledge about cars or the auto industry.

My 70 year old mom needs a new vehicle and wanted something like a small SUV. Any downsides to this Mazda for an older lady? The 0% is hard to pass up!

The rav4 might have slightly more cargo space but the car sucks compared to the CX-5.
The driving experience of the CX-5 is so much better, as is the blind spots / viewing etc.
build quality is phenomenal on the cx-5. I had a 2017 and 2020.

The area Mazda lags is infotainment system and their lane keep assist technology is behind.
