Mazda is having a hard time moving inventory. I bought a new CX-5 Signature at the peak of the pandemic shortages with 0.9% financing and $1000 below MSRP.

I absolutely love the car. As absurd and silly as this sounds, it's far more Cayenne than RAV-4. My only complaint is that gas mileage is mediocre to poor.

Delivery Fee (non-negotiable) $1,375.00

Total Sticker Price $38,835.00

Friends and Family discount -$2,600.00
Mazda Loyalty discount -$500.00
Total Price of Car (This probably where your bread and butter is in terms of where you can negotiate) $35,735.00

I asked for free weather mats and got it at the end

Might be worth asking for a few extra free oil change coupons as well

One thing i've learned in life is, once you make a large purchase, like a house or car, etc. Just stop looking and researching, you'll only be disappointed

I dont understand the point of buying these new. You can get a clean, recent low mileage used for thousands less, and these hold up, so the few extra miles aren't going to mean much.

Not true. Good dealers don't give a crap if you pay cash. I recently bought a 2024 and the dealer said he did not care if I paid cash or finance. I buy a new car about every 3 years and always pay cash. They also gave me top dollar for my trade. I only lost $1100 in 30 months.

Why do you even bother buying when you rotate cars on a standard lease cycle?

Hilariously you provide a great example of that right here:

I agree no car can do "over 300 hp of torque" LMAO

Torque, which is measured in Newton metres (Nm), or pound feet (lb-ft), is the rotating force of the engine while horsepower is the rate at which that force works...."horsepower of torque" is a gibberish phrase.

But if you want something much quicker than anything Mazda makes and gets the mpg equivalent of far more than 40mpg there's a number of EVs that'll fit the bill.
But I for example don't want EV and want 40 MPG. I'm open to any under $20k

Having driven one of these a handful of times, I can't get over the fact that the driver is so crammed for space in the vehicle. My friend's Civic does a better job providing leg and head room and driving ergonomics.

For under 20k OTD for a new car you've got only 4 choices at all-- the Nissan Versa, the Hyundai Accent, the Kia Rio, and the Mitsubishi Mirage (in other news, Mitsubishi still sells cars in the US!)

The Versa is rated 32 city and 40mpg highway, the Accent 33 city/41 mpg highway, the Rio 32/41, and the Mirage 35/41 for the sedan and 36/43 for the hatch.

So none will deliver 40 MPG in exactly 50/50 mixed driving though the Mirage hatch comes rounding-error close... but if you're mostly highway driving you can maybe get there with any of the 4.

That said if your budget is that tight a new car might not be the best idea regardless.
