Mazda is having a hard time moving inventory. I bought a new CX-5 Signature at the peak of the pandemic shortages with 0.9% financing and $1000 below MSRP.

I absolutely love the car. As absurd and silly as this sounds, it's far more Cayenne than RAV-4. My only complaint is that gas mileage is mediocre to poor.

One thing i've learned in life is, once you make a large purchase, like a house or car, etc. Just stop looking and researching, you'll only be disappointed

Not true. Good dealers don't give a crap if you pay cash. I recently bought a 2024 and the dealer said he did not care if I paid cash or finance. I buy a new car about every 3 years and always pay cash. They also gave me top dollar for my trade. I only lost $1100 in 30 months.
Paying cash right now, instead of five years no interest is kind of silly, from a math perspective.

The Tesla Model Y is literally the best selling car in the world my dude.

For under 20k OTD for a new car you've got only 4 choices at all-- the Nissan Versa, the Hyundai Accent, the Kia Rio, and the Mitsubishi Mirage (in other news, Mitsubishi still sells cars in the US!)

The Versa is rated 32 city and 40mpg highway, the Accent 33 city/41 mpg highway, the Rio 32/41, and the Mirage 35/41 for the sedan and 36/43 for the hatch.

So none will deliver 40 MPG in exactly 50/50 mixed driving though the Mirage hatch comes rounding-error close... but if you're mostly highway driving you can maybe get there with any of the 4.

That said if your budget is that tight a new car might not be the best idea regardless.
Fine…I'll go with the Mirage hatchback given the quirky 3 cylinders no BS simple car, per owner review. 3 cyls = easy 45+ HWY MPG!

Too bad the Fit isn't available here in US. It would have had been very popular right now, even with the CVT!

Bought a '21 Carbon AWD Turbo back in September of 2021, and have modified it quite a bit in an "OEM+" sort of way with a JB4 piggyback tuner (huge boost in HP and torque using 93 octane), strut bar, Eibach lowering springs for a slight drop. Pretty enjoyable now after putting 20k miles. MPG is bad but this is a quality car for how much I paid at the time ($31k+taxes) brand new. Paid cash to get $1500 under MSRP.

For $31k I got:
-AWD
-Turbo
-Leather
-Bose sound system (improved by stuffing the woofer box with polyester filling and surrounding trunk with dynamat)
-Power liftgate
-Sunroof
-Rear air vents
-Rear USB ports
-Heated front seats
-Dual front power seats
-Dual Exit Exhaust
-19" wheels
-Keyless with remote start/proximity lock
-Best crash test ratings out of 20 CUVs including Germans.
-Car still built in Japan.
-Heavier steering which I prefer compared to competitors.

The car was just a bargain! Its not perfect and has its flaws (mainly MPGs) but the build quality and features are impressive for price paid.

Why didn't you just get a used X3 if you were going to modify it and thus throw away warranty coverage? Would be lot better car overall with stock engine that already much more powerful before JB4?

Mazda is safer, has a bit more rear legroom, have a pretty good dealer that doesnt care as long as I remove JB4 before bringing in (havent needed warranty work), and I have owned a couple money pit BMWs. I know they have vastly improved with drivetrain, but the surrounding auxiliary parts are still all plastic. BMW you lease, Japanese you buy for the long haul. + I like having a bit of a sleeper.

Depends on what you want.

Electrics are sitting on lots. If you want one of those and you see them stacked high, you're in the driver's seat. Play hardball. Many dealers are crying over them. Every month on the lot is another payment on their floor plan and a lost opportunity to bring in something more profitable like a used car.

Anything that comes with limited allocations still seems pretty high. Big trucks around here are still stupid expensive. I've seen some things with a $40k bump but now they're starting to sit longer. Seems that market is softening up, too.

I've gotten some deals for my work fleet but the local dealers are still trying to get idiot prices. So I've cast my net wider. Last car I bought I got under MSRP but I had to drive 3 hours to get it. Best offer I got locally was $5k over sticker and that was from a place I used to buy a few cars a year from. So much for loyalty.

Speaking of electrics...is there like a market to sell reservations? I got called up to choose my Hummer the other day. I really don't want to buy one, but maybe people like to cut in line?
I see too many horror stories of 5 year and one month old cars needing $20k in replacement batteries to ever want to buy an electric car.
I think some time in the future there will be standardized battery packs so you drive up to a "gas" station your car goes up on a lift a fully charged battery is pluggerd in and off you drive 5 min later. You just pay some monthly "battery" fee and you never end up needing to wait 4 hours for a charge or needing a $20k battery replaced! Then electric cars will be viable replacement until then I will stick with gas. There is a good chance you are charging your hybrid car with coal generated electricity so really electric cars are just there to make ppeopple feel good about themselves for "saving the planet" when actually doing nothing to improve it!

Not sure what you mean about safer since they both have 5 star crash rating? BMW can get expensive if one doesn't work on cars, parts aren't expensive just the labor will kill ya haha. . You can be sure that Mazda will have lot more plastic components that a BMW tho Wink I been running 186% of stock horsepower on my BMW via JB4, FBO, E85 BFE for 50k miles and repairs have been minimal. Spend way more on mods hah.

Anyways, was just curious since you mentioned JB4 and these cars came with really underwhelming engine to use as mod bed.

Safety may be comparable I guess, maybe im wrong there for the updated X3 . In the end, the biggest thing is- BMW value would have tanked while the Mazda depreciation would be slower given the price point I bought it at.

A used X3 at the time I bought when cars were scarce and overpriced in 2021, would have cost me $45-48k. If I tried to trade in now, Id have gotten about $30-32k maybe.

Im about to trade in my CX-5 ( for a new Lexus IS500...last ICE car for me that I plan to keep forever) and getting $27k from it from Carvana and $28k from a local dealer after 20k miles driven. Id have taken a huge dump if I bought an X3. My intention was for CX-5 to be a holdover car anyways until the car market/availability improved...and its been a great car.
