Can you please link to some evidence of this? I own a 2021 M1Pro 14" MBP and I haven't had any heating issues, and my understanding is that M2Pro and M3Pro are *more* efficient at dissipating heat, not less.

Certainly a 16" MBP is going to be cooler than a 14", simply by virtue of the increased chassis area to circulate and expel air. Commensurately, a 14" will throttle before a 16" does--but I've never read anything that suggests that translates into legitimate "problems" with heat. Every laptop eventually throttles. It's part of the spec.

THIS is what I've been waiting for for the last 6 months in order to upgrade my 2020 M1 that foolishly was purchased with 8gb memory. This is the sweet spot as far as I'm concerned, great deal, thanks OP!

I've had this model for a few weeks now and it hasn't even gotten warm yet, it's crazy. Most of my time has been in logic, video streaming, steam game streaming from my pc, and general tasks. I'm not editing 4k video or anything but I feel this could handle it without overheating. This is my first MBP since the 13" I owned in 2011. Holy cow what a massive leap in technology since then.

Been watching this for months. This is a good deal. Same price as B&H on BF, which went quick. Would jump on this. I pulled the trigger too early but Best Buy price matched and gave me a credit.

I too got some credit back from BestBuy.

A quick question … would you prefer this ($1750) over an open box 16 inch M2 16 GB RAM / 512 GB from Microcenter (for $1611)?

These are very different use cases. The 16 inch will be heavier and less portable, but more battery life. Unless doing creative GPU intensive work, the M2 will be fine. However, might be worth going even lower and getting Microcenter's factory refurbished 16 inch M1 (I think that is 1300)–The performance is not much different between M1/M2.

Great. So compared to M1 and M2, 16 inches, you would prefer the former, mainly due to price difference - 1300 vs 1611?
The issue with the former is that I was not able to get warranty and Apple care from Apple as according to them the MC refurbished doesn't qualify for their warranty.
My hope with the M2 from MC is that I will be able to get the Apple warranty (as apparently it's a new open box, not a refurbished one).
Moreover, it's M2 (12 core CPU and 19 core GPU) as compared to the M1 (12 and 16 cores respectively), slightly more powerful.
Thx

I thought the MC deals were all Apple certified refurbished and therefore get the 1-year warranty. There's another thread on that somewhere. This is the item: https://www.microcenter.com/produ...ed)-silver
Obviously, warranty is important. Personally, if it's M2 w/ warranty vs. M1 cheaper but no warranty, I would go M2.
I've been doing the open box hunt at Best Buy lately. Their standards have gone down -- TWO of the so-called "excellent" open box macbooks had either a deep gash or a dent. Definitely make sure you check it out.

1 TB variant is $240 off at Microcenter. I just went to Best buy and had them price match. In case anyone wants the same level of discount but more but the bigger hard drive and unbinned CPU/GPU

BB has open box available (at least in my DC metro area) as low as $1675. However the warning about open box at BB applies... we have been getting models without AC adapters etc even when "excellent" supposedly. Had to return one earlier this month for that reason.

you see a lot of 14" sales because they're bad - a lot of heating issues. Do your research before you buy the 14" model.
What....? Where are you seeing this? Lol

I did get the m3 pro open box from Best Buy for $1600 so might want to check it out. 18GB, the screen and speakers is what took me from the m2 model to this one. 4 cycles on the battery but I can live with that as I still have 11 months of warranty plus another one for buying it with a platinum amex but many cards now offer an extra year of warranty on top of the standard 1 year warranty. The computer Looks new by the way. I did get an M1 in January 2021 for $600 that was supposed to be dented and was brand new too, just opened. Every experience will be different though

Congrats! That's a great deal. I really tried, but the two times I did the "excellent" units were anything but. If I wanted to drive hundreds of miles, maybe I could get lucky--but at some point there is diminishing returns for time vs. savings. My last two iMacs I bought at BB open box were perfect and also hundreds off. For those going this route, start searching after January 14--there's sure to be plenty of open box stock from the end of the holiday return period.

16" open box for $2001 is a good deal!
heck you could resell it for $2000 next year if you get bored of it!
