It looks like the US "Reservation Gift" cannot be used towards the phone either: "The Gift cannot be applied to the pre-ordered device(s) and must be used at the time of pre-order purchase towards purchasing additional eligible products on Samsung.com, or in the Shop Samsung App."

Exactly. Having a choice is better. Still have not had anyone explain what the customer GAINED by removing the expansion slot. Prices have done nothing but go up since it's removal.

getting rid of the SD card was a money grab on the high end phones....storage is cheap.....they figure if you can afford their high end phone you will pay up for more storage.....they include and brag about the A54 having SD card storage

I don't know for sure, but my guess is because they don't want to redesign some of these crappy midrange phones. They probably figure it's cheaper to include the microsd reader into the phone than to redesign the board inside the phone. Also gives an extra spec boost for these low/midrange phones.

Another possibility is they're designed with 2nd/3rd world countries in mind where they need more local storage since their cell infrastructure is garbage.
Lol, bending over backwards to provide every stupid explanation but leaving out the obvious one - money or as Apple likes to call it 'Courage'

Last year's best deal comes from Google Fi. But Samsung official website does have the highest trade-in values though. So it you have s22u/s23u, you may get a good deal to upgrade to s24u, if they are willing to keep the upgrading cost under $300 with trade-in.
I feel $200 max out of pocket is a good upgrade with trade in of an S22 Ultra

Nope, you can only make that statement if there were two phones with exactly the same specs except one with a micro SD card reader.

You're pretending as if big corporations never make user hostile actions to increase their profits SMH

I gain nothing from defending Samsung from making bad decisions. I don't have any vested interest in doing that. I never claimed Samsung didn't factor in money, but lets be real, if Samsung were at risk of losing more than a few thousand customers over this decision, they wouldn't do it. Do you honestly believe there's that many people that would upgrade their storage capacity because they don't have microsd? Again, I'm not talking about the 1% or less of people that are power users.
Not the argument I made but go on.

Anyway, I'm not trying to convince anyone else on a deals forum and messing up the thread. I'm out

What do you think is the percentage of people that use more than the base 128GB storage option? I'm by no means a power user when it comes to utilizing storage but I have a ton of apps and games and still only have to offload my pictures/videos every month or two. I'm guessing at least 90% of people use less than I do and 99% would never even purchase a microsd card.

I would personally love to have the option of a microSD card, but i can understand why Samsung would leave off that feature.
I don't know about you, but on my Note 20 Ultra, I have a 1TB SD card and 95% of it is full. I have my entire music collection (with a lot of FLAC files ~ 300GB), lots of HD & 4K films/videos/entire tv shows, + all my photos and personal files.

I use the onboard 128gb storage for apps only + some other miscellaneous files, and currently 65% is that is used. Any more and it will bog down the phone.

And this is not uncommon at all if you go to places like Reddit and other online phone forums. It's very commonplace. Sure we're outliers, but there's something about having EVERYTHING in the palm of your hands ready to be accessed whenever AND onboard locally, as opposed to relying on the cloud, potentially being hacked, bad internet, being tracked, using clunky flash drives, etc..

And that's me compromising to save space. I'm waiting for 2TB cards to be released and become affordable. 1.5TB isn't enough. I could fill 2TB up easily.

it doesn't hurt the phone to have SD card expansion.....what's your logic on why they took it out of the S23 and kept it in the A54??.....It would not have affected the S23 at all to have just kept it in and let the user decide whether they want to use it or not.....they took it out of the flagships for a reason

"no one actually used those outdated MicroSD slots".
I definitely never said that. I've consistently pointed out that the amount of people that use microSD slots is very tiny (not zero). Doesn't matter what "your truth" is, what matters is what most users would care about and why they would purchase a phone. Again, I would love to have the microSD slot back, but me and others on tech forums are the minority. I'm actually surprised Samsung wouldn't add it to the Ultra models of the S series because those power users would be the ones that might actually care and would still purchase a 1TB model.

It wouldn't be much difference from S23 ultra. There will be no need to upgrade.
The only reason for me to upgrade is my 7y son has played with my phone a lot recently and dropped it twice and the screen is scratched pretty badly. I am lucky the screen has not cracked yet. Cannot wait to upgrade it to S24 ultra
