I would say don't buy the Dirac Live, but do use a little money to design your space. Sound deadening paitings, heavy curtains versus window blinds, throw rug versus tile floor, that kind of thing. Sound correction was made as many people were unable or didn't have time to properly correct their settings to make the adjustments needed after they correct their space. The problem, in my opinion, is that people want to buy something like this and just throw it in any space and it will sound amazing. Not true. It will sound the best it can for that space, even if it means turning down your front speakers dramatically for the best non-reflective sound. So it might just be that you need to check out your space and see what might be reflecting or causing issues. Almost and hard surface or if the rear port is too close to a wall, etc. Check out online forums like AVS for guides/help. Your current setup might open up a lot once you examine and change your space. I hope this helps and is all just one person's opinion.

They are struggling to move the flaship, compared to the latest Pioneer Elite VSX-LX805 this is ugly and needs more pysical dials. This is not a Tesla touchscreen rather an AV amp which needs proper tactile feel and switches/levers for adults (and naughty children) to play with
Or do I spend the same money (around $400) for the Dirac Live license and that may even be better?
Considering I only want to spend another $400ish, debating between Dirac Live or External amp. (My room is not that big and volume is already good enough, but I am not sure if an external amp still would open up the speakers better)

I would probably go with Emotiva A2 this time, if I go down the path of amp.
A friend of mine paired Outlaw 5000 with his Denon X3700 and that Outlaw was a beast weighing 50 lbs
Most of your budget should be spent on your speakers quality and it's not necessarily a dollar amount, though it often helps.
Proper setup plays a significant role with AQ and good room correction is an extremely helpful tool to getting there.
BTW the configuration you are after is actually 7.2.4 and this has internal power/amps that would power all 11 channels(can expand to 13 channels with external power/amps).
Most subs are self powered and receiver just provides the signal.
I would point the 2 sub outs on this are parallel/mono signals.
I would also point out this only supports 2 pairs(4 speakers) of object based soundtracks(ie Atmos/DTS:X).
The Aventage A8A weighs 47 lbs with a hearvy toroidal transformer, it'll put out clean power normal sized 11.4 surround systems
