I have had both the Viper and this one. They both drain the battery.
I've had this same Compustar on a Nissan Rogue going 5 years, no problem at all. I also have a Viper 4806 on another car, has been great for 10 years.
I bought one back in October when it was on sale. It works perfectly, no issues with battery drain and the BestBuy tech was awesome. He asked all the questions on how we wanted it to work (it can be configured different ways), explained everything thoroughly, walked me through it and said if we had any issues just give him a call or bring it back in. It's been working flawlessly since. The BestBuy service was the best service experience I've had in some time. It blew me away because I wasn't expecting it based on my experiences with BB service years ago.

I've even thought about getting one for my car even though I probably won't have it much longer.

Just wanted to add, we use it daily. Also, we can use the original fob by pressing sequences. For example, to start press LOCK UNLOCK LOCK and it remote starts.

I honestly have absolutely no idea why people find the "engine shutting off when the door opens" such a deal killer.
It cools your car.
Then you get in your car and turn it on..
Like you've literally been doing since you had your car.
I agree with you, but I'd imagine pit-stop mode would be less convenient when running into a store for a minute.

this particular model doesn't work with a manual. there are other ones with a 2 way pager that's needed to work with manuals.

so what you would do is before you turn the car off. you'd activate the autostart function. it would leave your car running for 25 secs after you remove your keys and locked the door. so then the next time you want to autostart. it'll be ready to go and safe to do so without worrying that it's in gear.
This also means you are 100% relying on your parking brake to keep your car in place.

It's pertinent to note some cars need a relay to pulse the door switch on engine off. Many modern cars will not turn off the stereo/auto headlights until a door is opened/closed. So if you remote start your car then change your mind and turn it off or let it auto shut off with the timer, these electronics stay on as they haven't sensed anyone exiting the car. It's an easy fix, a relay add to pulse the door trigger to make the car think someone has exited the vehicle on remote start shutdown. But something you should test to see if you are affected, and if so, take it back for the relay install (these alarms may already have a wire that pulses on shutdown and won't even require a relay, just needs attached/configured.)

Best buy in my area is struggling to give any sort of appointment and bouncing me from one department to another for such a a simple installation schedule.
If I go on their website and schedule, there are plenty of slot available but are charging me $199 and not part of this purchase

Sharing my experience, with the hope that it is beneficial to someone.

I traveled for two hours to Best Buy to get installed the Compustar 2-Way Remote Start System. Upon arrival, I was told that there is a missing component or an upgraded part required for my 2020 Subaru Crosstrek, and it would cost an additional $70. Despite my willingness to pay, they don't have the necessary item in stock. This experience turned out to be a complete waste of time and energy.

Yes, while I've purchased several of these (at least 5 or 6 at this point) and have had good luck with all but 1 install, the communication from best buy can be horrible. It may vary from location to location but you'd think that someone there (either in the local store or part of their customer service team) would review these appointments and to reach out to customers with any questions or concerns. As mentioned, a similar situation happened with one of the Car Starter installs, but I also had a whole big thing with a stereo install a couple years back. Long story short it took 3 separate 1.5 hour trips to the store before things were resolved to the point I didn't feel like complaining any longer. Also, in my case you literally could not reach the Auto Department in the store. If you called them, you'd get the main best buy line who would direct you to call the store, which would then just forward you back to their main line. They suggested if I had any questions to just physically go there and ask.

Anyway, moral of the story....If you have the opportunity to talk to someone at any point prior to the install, do it and make sure to ask if you need any additional parts or etc. to avoid unwanted surprises or delays.

Otherwise the other installs have all went well and the system worked great.

Lesson learnt. I have never done anything with best buy like this before. Thank you for your suggestion.
