This version is underpowered. So much so that it's price is diving.

Based on previous SD posts, almost everyone says to go for the extreme processor. It is worth the price and can handle majority of the games out currently.

Good for 17hr flights? I am dreading it.
I don't know about this but noise canceling headphones (Bose or Sony) works wonders especially for those long flights.

There is no "high end Steamdeck" model. They are all underpowered 720p handhelds, OLED or not.
When you factor in the overhead (processing power and memory that Windows uses), the difference isn't that great between the Steam Deck and the Ally. The OLED SD has a larger battery and a better screen, so it is an improvement over the first version.

I had an Ally, but between the SD card frying, and disappointing battery life, the Steam Deck is my go-to device. The Windows UI just wasn't designed for handhelds and it shows.

Took my OLED Steam Deck on a 15-hour one (layover). Fortunately, Delta had AC outlets, but I could have got by with a power bank with USB-C PD, I think.

The Xbox isn't the hard part; the TV, cabling, and generator is where my local airport seems to draw the line. Silly TSA.

Underpowered = SD better battery life. SD is 800p btw. Tradeoffs all around. This model can handle emulation pretty well.

How "underpowered" is this compared to the Extreme? The price is really good.

is this a better deal than the Steam Deck?
This has 2 more cores than the Steam Deck but 4 fewer CUs, so it probably compares okay to the steam deck as valve targets 1280x800 30 FPS and this will more than run all the same games at 1280x720 30 FPS. I have honestly been pleasantly surprised by this, but wouldn't buy this if you planned to use it as a laptop replacement, for that I would go extreme.

Just picked up an open box (excellent) Extreme version over the weekend and I've been impressed. I actually wanted the SD OLED but what put me over the top was the ease of running GamePass games. For that it has delivered so far. Easy to install and play games.

But be warned, the battery life is as bad as they say.....

The extreme is better, but what are you going to play on it? I get better than 40 FPS on most titles with it. The key is to use FSR or RSR and tweak the settings in game.

These are the games I've run on it.

Forza Motorsport
Forza Horizon 5
Hogwarts Legacy
Gotham Knights
Doom
BF 2042
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Diablo II Resurrected
Diablo IV
Monster Hunter Rise

Overall it hasn't been a bad little system and it's very easy to repair.

I just want something to help me catch-up on my backlog, which are all older games. Probably the most demanding games are Kingdom Come Deliverance and Horizon Zero Dawn. Probably will use it to play D2R as well, and maybe even DI, even though I already have it on Android. Oh and the older Saints Row games.

I doubt Horizon Zero Dawn and Kingdom Come are any more demanding than the games on my list honestly. So, I wouldn't be surprised if it does meet your needs. But the 512 Gig Steamdeck is also $399 right now, so it's a toss up.
