What benefits does this confer that sitting on a $15 balance ball wouldn't?
I'm a software engineer so I sit on my butt all day. Soon to be getting a standing desk, but I will not give up this "ball" chair.
This kid doesn't do hardly anything exercise wise. He's skinny, and almost 6' tall. However, some of his athlete friends were over and they decided to hold a plank contest in the back yard. This kid who hasn't played a sport in 2 years held the plank for 6 minutes, which was 2 or 3 minutes longer than any other kid and wasn't breaking a sweat.
So, if you want a solid core without going to the gym, this would do it for you.

That's because you're getting your advise from an ergo specialist. He missed the point and this is not what this ball is for. "You'll have to twist when people come up to you and that may provide stress"??? uhh, yeah, that's what you want to do to build your core.
The two chairs I had both ended their service life with the ball failing.
Good for your back when it works.
The back wound up cracking after some time because I leaned back on it here and there. It was useless after that. I would not recommend.
