Dang it I thought this was for a Marvin the Martian helmet

This guy convinced me not to get it.
FWIW, I'm an online teacher and sit at my desk at home a lot. I use an exercise ball (yoga ball), all by itself, (not in a platform), that's properly inflated. I also got a pool noodle from the Dollar Store and made that into a circle so it keeps the ball in place when I get up or sit down. I've used this for a few months now and I love it. It takes some getting used to for sure. But, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Just my experience. Smilie

I had a ball chair for awhile. I actually did like it but went back to a good traditional desk chair. This thing just looks silly. I suggest buying an exercise ball first and making sure you like it before investing in wheels and a back to go with it but if you want to go all in right off the bat then I guess $40 isn't terrible.

I have used one of these chairs for about three years when I sit at my adjustable desk. I do not intend to go back to a regular chair. I find I sit better and more comfortably In this. I used a ball for a while, but to get to a regular height you have to have a large ball and they take up more space, and they roll around when you are not using it. I found this a surprisingly good alternative. I think a great purchase at 40 dollars.

As a long term ball user, which I have this exact one from the same company without the back rest. I've been using it for years and by far prefer it over a regular chair. I used to have pressure pain sitting on chairs, and this eliminated that. No more back pain either. The only pain I've had is sitting too much and having some pressure on my butt (bone), and that's unavoidable if you're sitting.

I'm a software engineer so I sit on my butt all day. Soon to be getting a standing desk, but I will not give up this "ball" chair.

I wouldn't want to do it, but I have a friend that got this for her son. He wanted a gaming chair, but as an OT, she refused. She got this for him. He broke the back off of it, but all through his teen years, he used this.

This kid doesn't do hardly anything exercise wise. He's skinny, and almost 6' tall. However, some of his athlete friends were over and they decided to hold a plank contest in the back yard. This kid who hasn't played a sport in 2 years held the plank for 6 minutes, which was 2 or 3 minutes longer than any other kid and wasn't breaking a sweat.

So, if you want a solid core without going to the gym, this would do it for you.

It's good. Great for posture IF you already do some core exercises. I gave it up for an ordinary drafting stool because it loses air slowly.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Successfully talked me out of getting this and saved what could be some negative impacts on my body/back. In theory it looked cool and different and a change of pace for working through the day, but clearly lots of downside that wasn't immediately obvious.

To top it off, an inflatable ball is cheaper as well. Thanks for posting that!

That's because you're getting your advise from an ergo specialist. He missed the point and this is not what this ball is for. "You'll have to twist when people come up to you and that may provide stress"??? uhh, yeah, that's what you want to do to build your core.

I have used a ball chair on and off for a few years but stopped after the last one sprung a leak.
The two chairs I had both ended their service life with the ball failing.

Good for your back when it works.

I had this chair. You actually are more prone to falling over when you roll back because of the higher center of gravity. I fell back a few times in the office in this chair. It was slightly embarrassing, but entertaining for colleagues.

The back wound up cracking after some time because I leaned back on it here and there. It was useless after that. I would not recommend.

Thanks for the video, even if I found the guy unconvincing. This seems like a love it or hate it product.

In for 1. Thanks OP.
