Jokes aside, I appreciate when budget computers have some sort of USB C to at least support higher speed data transfer and charging of peripherals that by default charge via USB C. Bought this computer for a friend and it will certainly meet his needs and then some. I guess it ultimately depends on use.
It was $430 on sale a couple days back when I bought it and Best Buy price matched to $400 via chat.

OEMs lock features and processors into their higher cost lines. Imagine being able to get a laptop with an i3, high refresh QHD, 16gb dual channel (user replaceable), 512gb ssd, with Thunderbolt for under $500. That model would sell like hotcakes and most people don't need more than that. Thunderbolt opens up the option for eGPUs as well. Imagine dual m.2 ports and then you could use a superior, to Thunderbolt, eGPU option with Oculink... Nice.
I haven't received it and understand I can return it.
Worth getting this instead? He says it's for school, but I know he mainly wants it for Roblox and Minecraft.
Thanks in advance.
16GB is a nice bonus as well.
Nice package for $400

Touch navigation makes the most of Windows 11. The 1920 x 1080 resolution boasts impressive color and clarity. HP BrightView glossy screen. IPS technology for wide viewing angles. LED backlight.
"glossy screen" it is not for me! I have a Lenovo with the anti-glare screen, I like that.
A FP deal for sure!

That Acer u bought is refurbished with one of the slowest cpus on the market.
The Best Buy laptop is brand new and has a 5700 CPU that is 40% faster in some benchmarks. Not to mention it also has a touch screen. I would buy this laptop in a second and send that Acer back!!

This Ideapad has brighter 300nits display and "guaranteed" touchscreen. However, it cannot be charged via USB-C like the Acer.
Brand wise, Lenovo > Acer. The quality and support from Lenovo are better overall.
If budget is not an issue, I'd take this Lenovo instead.

I have a laptop with virtually identical specs from Dell (mine supports USB-C charging which I think this one may also) and has a backlit keyboard but otherwise it's the same. I paid 600 for mine a couple years ago but I barely got any use out of it as a laptop because the touchpad was such garbage that it had to be used on a desk. I'm hoping that Lenovo is better quality, I got a Legion 7 Slim in 2023 and have been extremely happy with the build quality (obviously a much more expensive laptop than this though).
Either way, this is a great deal, these are not low-end specs at all. like Maroon showed, the passmark for this is 16k, more than capable for any productivity task. This CPU (on the dell I have) can play Rocket League, Command and Conquer well, and to a much much much worse extent, warzone lol. The integrated graphics are nothing to write home about but they are serviceable for casual gameplay
