Problem with that model is you have to manually engage dolby vision for each dics - totaly bonkers.
You don't think you will regret that decision as they censor, make unavailable and edit "politically incorrect" scenes out of all your digital content in the coming years?
Year ago I'd laugh at a dvd player. I pulled mine back out and cancelled all these streaming services.

Just no Dolby vision support... Sigh I have the UB820 for that reason, but it's $400. This is a good deal for what it is ☺️

Can anybody explain what to look for in a Blu-ray player now? Mine is 15 years old and I stopped using it since I started streaming services. I want to start using it again because I'm building a dedicated theater room, but I didn't think my old Blu-ray player would be outdated.

Any VCR sales?
Yikes. You like paying a monthly fee for access to a rotating group of mediocre content at lower video quality?

Assuming your dedicated theater room will have a 4k display, something like this deal would be great. Something that upscales your DVD/Bluray content, but would also play 4k discs if you ever start getting those which, again, if you have a large 4k display and a good audio setup would make a great viewing experience. They also have just bluray players that upscale your disks and also have streaming apps, but I prefer a Roku for streaming over something baked into a bluray player. If you're sticking with bluray, other than upscaling and apps, you're looking for desired output / input ports, brand reliability, supported audio/video formats, etc.

Samsung TV owners must feel lucky to not have a chance at experiencing Dolby Vision.

If you're building a dedicated theater room, get a player that has Dolby Vision. This doesn't have that. Dolby Vision is the best form of HDR. It has far more colors and better contrast than HDR10/HDR10+. You're not getting the most out of your setup if you don't get something that supports it. That's assuming your TV supports it.

It will be interesting to see the price trajectory on these players as "mainstream" sellers of physical media continue to dwindle. I would guess they'll eventually become a niche product - and pretty pricey.

Physical media just had an all time record sales year.

Yes BB isn't using floor space in Physical stores, but they will continue to sell online.
