I just purchased this and installed it. Very nice. THROW THE SUPPLIED SCREWS AWAY, and go and buy some better replacements at Lowe's. The hardware supplied is very crappy and multiple screws stripped out and wouldn't go in, even with pilots holes as per the instructions. It's a great tabletop, just save yourself a headache and purchase decent wood screws(as mentioned on other Amazon reviews. They were correct). Enjoy!
I got this last time. It's pretty nice. Big nice block of wood (kinda like butcher block) with a decent clear finish. Feels very sturdy (in studs).
Another good option if you have one around; I got my solid wood door from a Habitat for Humanity ReStore. $30

Since we're all determined to use this for something other than what was intended…..

Do you think this would work as the hinge for a door hidden in a bookshelf? Like mount vertically in the doorway with the table turned shelf surface facing away from the hidden room?

Only trouble is figuring how to work the latch from outside the door, which would effectively be trying to unlatch it from above the table. Pulleys and such would do it. You'd probably want at least one additional hinge to help support the door unless it ends up being very light.

Curious if it can be rigged to open downwards instead.. like over a utility sink and then raised and hooked to wall somehow.

How competitively is this priced vs. other options? Can anyone chime in that has one?

Bought two of these last time around and found the same error in both manuals. Pay attention when installing the slow-close damper because the wall placement measurements are wrong and don't allow for the bench to fully collapse to the wall. I had to read through the reviews on Amazon.com to find the right measurements. I believe they're 1" too much. Once I fixed that the bench closes nicely. Also I was able to use the supplied screws by using a socket set and going slow.

Got and installed this on the last sale. Few recommendations:

Everyone is correct that you should go to the hardware store for new hardware. Stripping any screws will be a bad time. I still manage to strip 1 screw going into the wood top from underneath. If you have an impact drill, you will get better results. I switched to impact and the rest of the screws went in without stripping. The rest of the screws besides the stripped one keep it secure enough and it doesn't move.

If you get additional hardware, be sure to not get longer screws for the underside of the wooden top. I got 1/2" too long and it was enough to have a slight bulge on top of the wooden surface. I used washers for the wood screw just so it wouldn't go in as far. It didn't break through, and you can't even see it. If you run your hand over the spots, you can slightly feel it.

You can do the install with 1 person. when you get to the step where you have to screw in the support into the wooden top, you can sit and rest the middle of the board on your head. Make sure you have the opposite support engaged so you aren't resting the entire weight on your head. I had it mounted at 40" up and I was able to sit on the floor, rest the top on my head, and screw it in.

"Measure twice and cut once." Take your time to get the supports plumb and level so you don't have to murder your wall with multiple holes. I took my time and got it right the first time.

I would have to say no due to it's design. The hinges won't work correctly because it uses its own weight to lock in place.

Brackets partially derive strength from the downward force "pushing" the backet against the wall. Fulcrum amplification is minimized near the top of the bracket where the screws hold it in. When you invert it, you're putting fulcrum force amplification against the top screw (last screw) which most are not able to handle.

Buy larger brackets on Amazon and just get a larger top.

I recommend a flush door from your local hardware store. Will probably run you like $120. 1 strong person could easily toss one around. I'm like 130lbs and carrying one around wasn't too bad.

I've done this and tiled them. I have a 160" long x 38" deep 'desktop.'

Do you have brackets you could recommend?

I skipped the soft close. 99% of the time, it is going to be a desk for me.

Would this be good in a garage with just exposed studs? 16 on center for the brackets, but not sure about the soft close.
