The deal would probably state if it were refurbished. That said, all the Adorama deals that I have seen have been new; the refurb deals (like the one I bought) have been from denon.com.
Bought this last month last time it was $349. Works great and honestly sounds the same as my X3800h that I have in a different room even after applying room adjustments.
Adorama is not necessarily a 1st rate retail seller. It's been said that they get floor display models or refurbs and sell them as new. Either way, the one person said the Pioneer Elite might be a better unit. Any thoughts?
The 305 should be better, it's a 9 channel receiver & you're paying almost $200 more.
I'm not sure they are the same buyer though either.
People mentioned RC, yes this has Audyssey's middle tier version vs Dirac Live.
Keep in mind Dirac Live does not include their sub/bass integration RC.
This receiver is capable of adding Audyssey's Editor App.
Unless you're really on a budget, I would go up to the AVR-X1800H. It's on sale direct from Denon for $599 + 30% with the promo code (7F77XSQ7NS) for a final price of $419.
Will that code work on any other AVR or are there other promo codes?

I just received my pioneer avr wow i am so happy with the sound quality and my subwoofers came to life with this avr

Probably because there's not a lot to say about it. It's plain jane. It lacks the most advanced version of any room EQ which is THE biggest factor in sound quality. That fact puts my level of interest to zero. There's really nothing special about it at all. It comes from a trusted brand, if the list of features meets your requirements, and the price is right, buy it.

For someone with no interest in something you sure spent some time in this thread. Move along if this isn't your cup of tea. You aren't here to try to convince someone otherwise.

You have to get to the 3800 to get xt32, which is the level of audyssey you want. MultEQ XT has been widely panned because the direction audyssey went with it. It added more correction in the highs rather than mids and bass where it most useful. You always had to get the 3xxx level Denon to start getting xt32. That why I've had the 3300, 3600, and now the 3800.
There is no audible improvement in going from the s970 to the x1800.
I realized my mistake after bought X1800H. S970 is no different from X1800H but cost much less.
Couple of weeks back a deal with this same receiver with same price had so much of interest from slickdeal community; why there isn't much love for this one, am I missing something.

There's been some terrible reviews out about the Denon S970H; the one guy on YouTube said he finally
returned his.
I'd like to see a double blind listening test of this avr versus some other "better" avr in the same price/power category, with all audio controls set to flat.
My prediction is they couldn't tell them apart 👍🏼

Same here. However the AV drops for a couple seconds every hour or so. Updated the firmware, using awesome cables. The same TV worked flawlessly with an Onkyo receiver.
Thank you for sharing your insight as an owner of the Elite 305. This reviewer[youtu.be] mentions that the center speaker output of his test unit dropped out every now and again when setting surround mode to Auto. Wondering if it's similar to what you're experiencing. Hope it starts working for you soon.

They've been selling photo and video gear since forever and they're one of the top 3 in the business.

edit: for those that are interested in the 305, looks like it just dropped to $530 from the same seller(no they are not refurb/used either).

Edit: Still learning to read lol. Coupon code brings it down to the deal price.
