I doubt they'd remove it again since there must have been some backlash. As noted there, the deluxe desktop version is the one that supports schedule E, not the online version.
PS - the fact that they told you the price is increasing April 1st is a huge clue that they're either trying to scare you or they're talking about the online version. That said, there aren't many sales on TT desktop this late in the season.
Side note - FreeTaxUSA, OLT, and Cash App Taxes all support Schedule E for free (FreeTaxUSA and OLT charge $10-15 for state filing but that's free too with Cash App).

With regard to TurboTax, I am generally skeptical of customer service agents, especially from a company like Intuit. They're often not well trained on the products they support and/or they're just following a script or marketing materials. Intuit intentionally uses deceptive marketing to upsell you - like steering you to premiere with checkboxes for investment and rental income, but then the wording actually says "additional help" for these items. If you dig, there is a list of supported forms [intuit.com] for the desktop version and what you'll notice is that it's not broken down by product version. And just to clarify - the guidance is still there and you're not manually filling out forms with all of these products.
In the end, you can believe the people here (or Bogleheads or Reddit, etc.), or you can go with the marketing materials and reps from Intuit. Your choice. FWIW - deluxe has a built-in option to upgrade to premiere (they would never miss an upsell opportunity!). It's not that much money in the grand scheme of things either way.

I'm no expert, but I've used various tax software over the years, sometimes more than one in a year when I've helped friends out. I used to get scammed by the Intuit marketing to upgrade to Premiere, but realized there was no advantage over Deluxe thanks to posts here and at Bogleheads forum. I have a family member that still buys Premiere every year because they're stubborn lol. I tried H&R Block one year because it was cheap - it gets the job done but it's not as nice as TurboTax for the most part. Should have listened to my dad who had the same experience many years earlier.
Like many people, these were the only two options I really knew about, but I always wondered why filing taxes was so complicated - so much time spent re-entering data the government already has. I suppose that made sense in the days of paper returns, but it felt super outdated. And the software doesn't really improve year to year - just tax law changes. Then I read this article [propublica.org] and it all became clear. Lobbying, deceptive marketing, hidden fees, etc. I just couldn't support these guys any more. That led to me to explore other options and I was pleasantly surprised by the number of free and inexpensive options and I've found FreeTaxUSA to be just about as good as TurboTax and H&R Block. OLT.com and Cash App Taxes are good too. The only thing I miss is the 1099 import from banks/brokerages. Haven't convinced my family member to switch from TurboTax desktop, so I still have access to it.
Read my wiki post from this thread. I go over the pros/cons of download vs online software and the available free/cheap options.
tl;dr - just use FreeTaxUSA if you're willing to use online software. If not, TurboTax Deluxe desktop or H&R Block Deluxe desktop will do pretty much everything. Block is cheaper but TT doesn't feel as dated.
Let us know how it works out for you!

FTUSA state fee does include state e-file. They are very up front with their pricing and no last minute surprises.

if you really need H&B, your best bet is to trade a premier license, activate, and pay intuit to upgrade to H&B.
I live in NJ and work in NYC, so i have to file two states, with NJ and non-resident NY
I wonder if this software would work for me. I was paying my accountant $375 every year.
Anyone have any info, please let me know.
Someone who have the software can let me know how much it costs to download NJ state
Thanks.

Alternatively, FreeTaxUSA is free federal and $15/state. OLT.com is free federal plus $10/state. Cash App Taxes doesn't support multi-state filing.
