soldered RAM at this price should be obsolete.

I returned a G14 for this and am much happier with the build quality and software stability, also the OLED display is amazing! The battery life isn't bad if you're not using the RTX 4060...

Use the regular gpu for almost everything and not the 4060. It's in the Lenovo vantage settings

It was for sure that model, it's on sale for $1059, keyboard was way inferior compared to rog g14 and slim 7, trackpad definitely felt like plastic
You used a display model for how long in a store? This guy reviews laptops for a living, and he says the keyboard is clicky and the trackpad is glass, so I tend to trust his opinion: https://youtu.be/ubdhf0HNVDE?si=0...JkJL&t=121

The employee said it's been in the floor just a few days, I watched the same review, but I trust my own opinions then a YouTube video which is why I went to check it out for myself. I'm gonna skip on it

Fair enough. I tested the g14 myself and it both felt and looked like a toy to me. Then I read about their QC issues with their trackpad (evidently sounding like something is broken underneath it) and lots of IPS glow/backlight bleed issues. Then there's the screen on all IPS laptops, it's just not the same. Mini-LED is close but hard to find at a reasonable price. OLED is another level. Even if I felt the keyboard was "mushy" - I'd deal to have the OLED screen with its <1ms GTG and perfect contrast ratio. Ah... *chef's kiss*

That's valid, I have a 2022 g14 and the trackpad is very very loud, I think I'm gonna get a 2023 Lenovo legion slim 7 refurbished I was impressed with everything on the laptop (screen, keyboard, trackpad, speakers, all metal build)

I own a similar Lenovo AMD w/ discreet graphics. On a fresh image with updated drivers it crashes about hourly on batter and at least daily on AC power. I also own a HP AMD laptop (given to me by HP to test after I expressed issues with AMD) and THAT crashes 2-3x a day when connected to an eGPU and ever 1-2 days otherwise. Oh, and 1-2x an hour it drops and resets the usb dongle for my keyboard/mouse.

The price isn't bad, but you'll never convince me to buy another AMD laptop ever again. They were problematic 20+ years ago and they remain so today. I work in IT and never have these issues with the many Intel laptops I've used. Heck, even my surface laptop is better than any AMD i've ever used.

Anybody use this for photoshop? I've read the spec requirements for a gaming machine would be similar
My wife used a very similarly specced desktop for Photoshop and some of the rest of the Adobe suite. Performance is great. Looks like the screen has good color reproduction too.

I got mine last night. Comparing to my 2021 G14 is…no comparison.

The screen on this Lenovo is out of this world. Keyboard is much better, feels great to type on. Machine itself looks professional so I won't be ashamed of using it in public (not that I was with G14, but other gaming laptops…ew).

The fact that the screen can open all the way to 180 degrees is awesome if I'm in bed.

My only gripes are that the trackpad is almost comically large, and the Lenovo software package for performance management isn't as good as Armory Crate.

Your experience is at odds with the market. AMD systems are more popular than ever. Look at the success of the Steam Deck, ROG Ally and Legion Go. All AMD based systems. Last year the Legion 5 pro with AMD cpu and 3070 GPU was a hugely sought after deal. And people love that AMD system. Sounds like you had some bad luck and if that was the case did you reach out for warranty support? You don't mention it. No company is producing laptops that crash multiple times a day and still going to be successful.

To offer a counter point I have a large number of systems and they are split between amd and intel and the only two systems I've ever had to personally send in for a warranty repair were intel. But I'm not going to claim that I'll never buy another intel system. At work we also have amd and intel based systems and neither stand out as less reliable.

Hi,

Looking for some guidance on comparing this deal with a Slim 7 at Costco on sale for $1000.00

https://www.costco.com/lenovo-sli...76621.html

Costco laptop is a 3050, but it seems to have a better display, 32gb RAM, Ryzen 9 6900HS, and all the other perks of buying from Costco.

Which one is the better deal?

Thanks in advance.

Slim 7 has better keyboard/trackpad/ speakers and better built too, legion slim 5 is better for gaming with a much more powerful 4060, depends if you plan to game it's a no brainer.

You're going to ignore the OLED on the slim 5? Interesting. To me, that's a huge determining factor.

Curious to know, by what metric does the Slim 7 have a better trackpad than the glass trackpad on this device? And unless the Slim 7 has a mechanical keyboard, your statement about the keyboard is really subjective.

Both machines have an aluminum build. Reviews have said this machine is more like the Slim 7 line than the regular Slim 5 as far as build quality and feel.

Mine came in the other day. Top notch Lenovo build quality. Absolutely beautiful display. A little pissed the 32gb popped up cheap as well but whatever.

I didn't state oled because that's a given, but yeah the OLED is a huge plus, and we must have seen different reviews because I saw them mention the slim 5 14 OLED felt cheap, and I've used both the legion slim 7 and slim 5 14 OLED and build quality is night and day difference, slim 5 has an aluminum lid and bottom but where your palm sits it all plastic and cheap plastic tbh the keyboard is quite mushy too, I had ordered one but after using it I can cancelled my order, besides the OLED it felt like a huge downgrade from my 2022 rog g14, inferior keyboard inferior trackpad, inferior speakers, dimmer screen (400 nits vs 500 nits) if those things don't matter much then I think it's a great laptop for the price absolutely.
