I feel like I've seen much beefier builds in this price range. What makes this one a good deal?

Not doubting you, just trying to get educated.

When you say beefier, please clarify in what areas. If you're comparing it with gaming laptops then that's a not valid one.

Yeah, I was comparing it to gaming laptops. Why is that a bad comparison?

Because this is not a gaming laptop. And all those gaming laptops you're comparing to, majority are bigger than 14".

Adding to Good Doctor's point, different laptops are targetted towards different audience for different work categories. Gaming laptops are high performing devices with powerful CPU and GPU for running demanding games but sacrifice on portability, size, heat and noise, at in display quality, at these kind of entry price.
This laptop, on the other hand, belongs to Business / portable workstation category, targetting Business professionals, developers like Software development, basic creator work, office related stuffs, portability and battery life, low heat and noise, over absolute performance. Also, you'll get better support, firmware, and software upfate from the manufacturers than any consumer laptops, whether gaming or not. These also come with enhanced Security features, special software and firmware features for Network wake, network security and features which enables IT Admins to tweak it as per a big Organization needs.

Pretty good deal. If you're the Thinkpad type of laptop users, this is the type of laptop for you. Use to be a huge Thinkpad fan, but the past decade, they seem to disappoint me for some reason. I'm sporting a Zbook Firefly the past three years and it's my favorite laptop for analytical type of work. The build quality and keyboard are great.

Yes and that is a great option to reduce the price, if you are okay to source your own Windows Licence (Which can be found within $20 if you know where to look) or wanna use other Linux distros. By the way, this option is present because a lot of big companies, who purchase these laptops in bulk, have their own Windows Image with their own security and features implemented and don't need the one coming with the product. That option of no OS at a good amount reduced cost, helps them to get the product at significant discount.
