Thanks OP. Anyone know if something similar to these specs could have been had in the past 4 months or so for less than $299?

If so, it would not be often.

Micro center had one that shipped today that's better for 329. Con is that it's probably a refurbished one

Dont be fooled by the processor name, the Ryzen 5 7520U is Mendocino, its only 4 cores and based on the very outdated Zen 2 architecture (2019) and has a pathetic 2 CU's (GPU cores). Performance is quite poor and really should be in $250 laptops at most. You'd be better off getting an i5-1235U for considerably more performance or i3-1215U for more performance while still being cheaper.

AMD purposely changed their naming scheme recently to get away with selling these deceptively bad mobile CPUs.

My father in law just bought a refurbished Acer thru Acer via Ebay for $250(after discounts). Same CPU, only 8 gigs of ram, but a 512GB SSD and 1080p touchscreen. USB Type-C port supporting: (USB 3.2 Gen 2 (up to 10 Gbps), DisplayPort over USB-C, USB charging 5 V; 3 A, DC-in port 19 V; 45 W)

They even included a decent soft case for it as well. Refurbished may not be ideal for some but it does have a 2yr warranty included. Bought a similar model from them last year for my daughter and have had no issues.

Model A315-24PT-R90Z

Yes around Xmas time there was a 10% off dell coupon and a American Express coupon also. If you've never ordered anything from Dell u can still get that coupon by signing up for their email. The 7520 is a slow processor. This computer has a 1x1 Bluetooth also. Id wait for another deal. If your looking for a cheapie deal, micro center has a lenovo 14 in laptop with a 5500 processor for 249.

Too late, I didn't do my research, I made my auntie get one for herself today, no way she's returning it, well I guess Chrome will take a few more seconds to load...

I have this CPU in a laptop. It's not that bad. Just optimize the machine to not have tons of crap running in the background and you won't even notice.

It's true that it's old but that does not necessarily mean that the CPU is bad - it's plenty for most people. This CPU is just a rebranded Ryzen 3 5300U. It's WAAAAAAAY ahead of a Celeron.

It's the integrated GPU that sucks hard. Do not let the RDNA2 branding fool you, it's a huge downgrade from the 5300U's Vega 6

So that's why they don't call it a "Ryzen 7" in the description.

Putting a "7" at the beginning of the model number is deceptive right away.
