Apple continues to artificially limit non-pro cpus to force an upgrade to pro if you want multiple external displays. I really like my apple products but the fact that non-pro laptops can't support multiple monitors out of the box like a $300 Windows laptop is asinine.
It's shameful that anyone is selling a laptop with only 8GB of non-upgradable RAM these days. Memory requirements only go up over time, life expectancy for most laptops is at least 3-4 years, and 8GB is already too little. Ina couple years anyone who bought only 8GB (especially on a "Pro" device) is going to be hating life.
Hard to justify when the 8GB, 256GB model is on sale for $1000. At this level we aren't doing the super high end stuff so I'd rather pay a bit more for high end or pay a bunch less $1000 for a laptop that is still very awesome

some people will pay any price to avoid windows, but there's probably a reason macos still only has 15% market share.
Yeah, just illustrating that simply specs/numbers aren't EVERYTHING when making a purchasing decision... That being said, Apple could take the tenth of a point stock hit and make 16GB/512GB standard config across the board already I agree lol. Two butterfly keyboard MacBooks in a row had me eyeballing Windows laptops.. Thank christ they fixed almost everything terrible they had done 2015-2018 in the 16" Intel MBP and now the M-series machines are wonderful for what they are. Microsoft gets my bucks on the Xbox, I'll stick to the 15% market share OS lol. To each his own! Just funny how little Apple users go into PC laptop postings and dump on their shortcomings on here haha. Probably too busy trying to figure out how to sign back into iCloud haha. Nothing is perfect I suppose..

For the budget conscious (and technologically proficient), Hackintoshs are still viable for those with PCs who want to use MacOS. IMO Windows 11 has improved, and will be very good when the LTSC version is released later this year (my Windows 10 LTSC boots up sipping only 3GB of memory and has all MS nagware/telemetry disabled in Group Policy settings).

At least the Intel based macs happily continue to run the latest versions of MacOS with OCLP long after their retirement dates (while also running Windows at native speed). Once Apple abandons x64 completely however, I fear the value proposition will drop as they force obsolescence to their Apple-silicon systems after only 5-6 years.

lol damn I just got m3 15" air 16/512 for $1600
I did get 965 trade in instead of $825 max at Best Buy to offset the cost a little bit

I want the single core speed increase though and dual screen out.

I also can't return a 3rd MacBook this month!
