Yes it would 1440p is half of 5k. 5k is the "native" resolution for Mac. Current mac resolution (since retina) renders at 5k, the halves the resolution to 1440p. The effect is crisper text etc. but since 5k displays are rare and only for Mac, many people buy 1440p displays. Is it slightly less crisp looking than native 5k? Yes. But a decent 5k monitor starts at $1200, the Mac Studio display is usually more than that.
Long of the short, 1440p is in most cases better than buying a 4k display for a Mac. 4k does not natively render the way your Mac expects. They work, but it's more taxing on the gpu, and it doesn't look as good as 1440p.
Mac hierarchy for monitors:
Native 5K > 1440P high refresh monitor > 4K monitor
And 27" is the standard size using the above info for reference, in order to keep the dpi inline with what your MacBook displays.
Also, I bought this and tested it on a M2 pro MacBook 14", via the included usb c to DisplayPort cable. Looked excellent.
