If you have a Costco membership pay the $10 extra for the apple care bundle.
I never pay extra for Apple Care or any extended warranties. Yes, things break, but why pre-pay for repairs that might never be needed? You also have to pay a service fee for each "incident" so the real cost is more than $10 extra if you need to use it.
If you're a Best Buy Total Tech member then it's 189 + 2 years of apple care.

amex or visa platinum gets me + 1 year of warranty, so saving the $10 bucks isn't a horrible deal.

if they go bad within 2 years, then i get a full refund and replace them w/ airpods pro 3.

This is not a good strategy for Airpods Pro. The batteries WILL degrade and the smart thing to do is to get them replaced shortly before your AppleCare is expired. That way you get a new pair for only the cost is the AppleCare.

I have the non-pro. So comfortable. Anyone ever switch to the pro and not like the fit? If so, are they returnable?

Still way overpriced, should be $99 at most.

Well, there is no service fee if your battery life drops below 80% before the 2 years are over. If that happens, you get a replacement which could potentially last you another 2 years.

I understand there is no way to check batter life in the settings, but you can say your headphones don't last as long as they used to before. So, I would say it's totally worth having Apple Care with AirPods.

I fully second this. I've had airpods for years and I get AppleCare + on all of them so I can swap them out 1-2 times over their warranty. It's the only apple device that I use with a warranty. My phone and laptop I dont buy the warranty for.

Just walk in, tell them the battery life is way less and they'll swap them out.

Not related to this deal, on FB marketplace I see several people selling brand new airpods pro and samsung buds for $50-60. I assume all those are fake, isn't?

I fell victim to this. The fake versions of airpods are incredibly convincing. They even showed up as legit Airpods when I paired them with my phone, including showing that the product was under warranty for another 10 months. When I took them into the Apple Store because they were acting strangely, I was informed they were actually fake products and someone had re-used the serial number from a different set.

TLDR - not worth the risk purchasing off of marketplace postings.

I still haven't been sold on buying the 2nd gen with my first gen still working well for a year and a half. Years ago it would boggle my mind, but not anymore since it's Apple; it's a sin to have volume controls on these as a "new feature" and not on the first gen. If anyone has a Costco membership, I'd also spend the extra $10 and get the extended AppleCare. I think that's a no brainer.

The horribly loud low battery alert can be turned down to almost nothing on the 2nd gen. The battery alert level never could turn down on my 1st gen's. This one thing is reason alone to get the 2nd gen. No more hearing damage or waking up to insanely loud low battery warning. There should be a class-action for the trauma I've suffered from that awful alert!

Does it really work this way? I would suspect that it was degraded beyond what it should be that would qualify.
