Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...
scroll down to Port your Google Voice number out to another carrier

https://support.google.com/voice/...5667?hl=en

Account is GV Number no dashes and need Setup Voicemail PIN is Port PIN if not setup that yet

to setup the voicemail pin have go to settings and enable Call to listen Check and manage your voicemails by calling your Google Voice number.

If your phone can make calls/texts, it's already activated. No needs to do it again.

Not true, see above.. you missed !
Just checking... I know both of you ported GV numbers for this deal.

Did your GV number port completely? Just like others, I can't receive incoming calls on Razr 2023, but outgoing calls are working and OTP as well.

Mine STILL does NOT work. It's been 8+ days.
I'm willing to bet there is something wrong with the Porting of Metro and GV. I've ported GV to many other providers AT&T, Xfinity etc. It's NEVER taken more than 2 days.

The thing that worries me is that the plan is going to expire and if we don't renew it, the number won't fully port to Metro. And this would be ENOUGH for Metro to deny the unlock at 6 months.

It takes 7~14 days to port in GV number...yes, it is long wait

But our phones—in my case, Razr 2023—can make outgoing calls, register on the Metro network, and receive your phone-activated email as well.

Now Metro wants to play dirty, which they can deny, and they won't receive so many orders in the future.

Are you planning to call them? Also, do you think Razr 2023 won't get unlocked after 180 days even if it is registered on the metro network? We all received phone-activated email. You have more experience here.

I haven't heard of this before. I see you noted that it's complex, but do you know of any resources that talk about this in more detail? Googling for info just gets me a bunch of articles about locked vs. unlocked phones, which all talk about the same thing (differences in prices, etc.) and are useless.

somebody here knows better probably as this is where i learned it from. but they dont always support all the features as the "true" original unlocked phones like volte, wifi calling etc on carriers other than their original one. i'm sure it depends on the specific carriers and other factors.

like if you get a phone by metro, once unlocked it may not work great on verizon. etc. this is just an example, i dont actually know. in addition they have some carrier specific software that may be completely non removable. i dont think you can get rid of the metro splash screen for example and perhaps some metro apps.

I don't care the phone number at all. I don't want to call them. the phone will get unlocked after 180 days no matter what! no need worry!

If you're talking about Samsung phones, then you can flash them with Samsung stock firmware.

I have flashed the A54 with Samsung stock firmware, which removed all the metro junk and splash screen as well.

In fact, you install At&T, Tmobile, or Verizon on an unlocked A54. Everything is available on SamFw.

Nope. Incoming calls and texts still don't get to my Metro i12 (opened the box and activated with port-in GV number). But I don't really care. As far as Metro is concerned, it is activated and shows the ported number in its About Phone.

If Metro doesn't unlock it, I wil file a complaint with the FCC. I haven't had to file a complaint about Metro yet, but I've done it a few times when Tracfone didn't honor their Rewards promotions. The FCC will accept your case and forward it to the provider to respond. The providers/carriers take the complaints forwareded by the FCC seriously. Tracfone even has a dedicated Dept to respond to FCC complaints.

I ported from a Verizon MVNO to metro. First port went through fine. Second port took almost 24 hours after activation for texts to work properly. I even got a text from support to call in to confirm some info. By the time o called in after half the day was done the port was resolved.

I guess there's just some issues going around which will get resolved.
